How about something a little bit lighter from Nando’s to ease us towards the end of a turbulent working week? The news and developments regarding coronavirus has been tough to digest since South Africa got its first case 12 days ago. So, if only for a moment, let’s make things a little more… lemon and herby.
Nando’s post their take on coronavirus
South Africa’s popular food chain – and the undisputed kings of social media – have launched a new campaign to make consumers aware of the dangers posed by coronavirus. And do you know what? They’ve even thrown a little shade towards KFC in the process, killing two (flightless) birds with one stone:

Chicken wars: KFC dragged into a clucking mess
The Twitter post – which dropped just before 16:00 – makes reference to KFC’s famous “finger-lickin’ good” slogan. It reminds people to look after their hand hygiene and, essentially, warns folk away from their eternal rivals. The admin for KFC’s page is yet to respond, but we’re sure this beef – or its poultry equivalent – is about to get even spicier.
In the past 24 hours, Nando’s have also acknowledged the seriousness of the coronavirus situation. They have vowed to keep restaurants open, and assured customers that they are keeping their eateries safe and clean:
“With the recent developments regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), Nando’s have taken additional measures to mitigate risk for everyone. We would like to encourage our guests to join us in making health and hygiene a top priority. Our thorough health and hygiene protocol will be further bolstered during this time.”
“We are increasing the frequency of the sanitisation of our equipment, utensils and working surfaces. Regular hand sanitisation, in accordance with WHO standards, is a standard operating procedure for all staff and all our restaurants are equipped with hand-wash basins and soap for our guests’ convenience.”
