Chateau Gateaux has been creating some of the best cakes and pastries in the city since 1997. They are our go-to for fabulous celebration cakes and occasional indulgences. The only problem we had was that they were only located in the distant northern Joburg suburbs. Not that we really minded travelling to get ourselves a little Chateau Gateaux treat every once in a while. These treats are set to become a whole lot more regular now, as our favourite cake shop and patisserie has found a new home in the east!
Chateau Gateaux has opened a new store at Bedford Centre. We've been excitedly awaiting the store's opening since January. The doors to cake heaven have now finally opened and we couldn't be happier. We stopped by the store mere hours after its official opening to see what they've got on offer.

All about the cake
They aren't called The Cake People for nothing. Chateau Gateaux has an unrivaled reputation for producing the very best cakes around. Their new Bedfordview branch is no exception. The store is set out to entice customers directly to the cake display. Here you will find a tempting array of mini cakes, tarts and pastries. You can also take a slice out of Chateau Gateaux's most popular cakes, including the Mozart cake and decadent red velvet. Of course your cake order wouldn't be complete without a cup of freshly brewed coffee. There are a few tables inside the store where you can enjoy your cake and coffee. There's no better way to celebrate your birthday or anniversary than with a Chateau Gateaux cake. Their new store features a large fridge section packed to the brim with all your favourite cake creations. They've also got assorted pastries and puddings to take home for a midnight snack. Part of Chateau Gateaux's success is their secret technology that allows customers to freeze their cakes at home for up to 12 months. When you're ready to eat your cake, simply defrost it and experience the Chateau Gateaux magic. Your cake is guaranteed maintain its freshly baked texture and taste. You can then store your cake in the fridge for a further three days so you can savour every bite.
