Soweto Theatre is one third of the Joburg City Theatres amalgamation. Situated in vibrant Jabulani Cultural Precinct, this stunning theatre complex has been at the heart of live entertainment in Soweto for the past decade. The history of theatre and live performance in the area extends far further back , however. The Jabulani Amphitheatre has played host to a number of musicians and theatre groups since 1952. As one of the only leisure facilities in Soweto during the apartheid years, this site has an incredible significance.
Fast forward 60 years, and the stately Soweto Theatre was completed as part of the legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Now, 10 years on, the theatre is alive and well despite the many challenges of maintaining a live entertainment space during the global pandemic. Seven Colour Sundays
Seven Colour Sundays is a food and lifestyle event hosted at Soweto Theatre. Join them on Sunday, 1 May 2022, for good food, good music and a great atmosphere. The event is meant to stimulate the community economy and creative industry by bringing in both locals and visitors from all around Johannesburg. Eight performers will take to the stage to awe you, including Sjava, Peanut butter and Jam with Malcolm Jiyane, The Brother Moves On, and Soweto’s BCUC.
