What Is It?
The Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble present their annual concert at Linder Auditorium this July. The ensemble return to the stage with an impressive line-up. Four past and present Buskaid violinists will take to the stage to perform pieces from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, as well as Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Sarasate's Zigeunerwiesen and Mendelssohn's beautiful 10th String Symphony. The Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble will also treat audiences to a selection of pop songs and jivey township Kwela numbers.
The Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble, started in 1992, by British viola player Rosemary Nalden. The music school and string ensemble were founded in response to the difficulties young, black township musicians face. Over the years, the Buskaid Music School has produced a number of highly successful musicians. Their sought-after string ensemble regularly perform with international artists, too. So, be sure not to miss their annual concert!
