Castle Lite puts Cardi B concert on ice due to coronavirus fears

Joburg Admin / March 19, 2020

Cardi B fans will have to wait until coronavirus have left the world stage, to see the US rapper in action in SA.

It’s not all bad news as fans of the Bodak Yellow star will know by the end of March exactly when they’ll get to see the Grammy award-winning rapper.

Right when we’d unpacked our folder of Cardi B lyrics and were practising the “vosho” – Castle Lite has gone on to announce that the June concert has been postponed due to COVID-19 wreaking havoc on the global community

The Money MC was set to perform at the Dome in Johannesburg on 12 June. She would have been accompanied by several local hip-hop acts who are yet to be confirmed.

Cardi B concert still on…just postponed

Castle Lite has however, reassured people who have purchased tickets that the concert is still on and refunds for those who have changed their minds on attending, will be available once the new performance date is verified.

“We share the disappointment of our fans during this time of uncertainty, however, as a brand that cares for its consumers, we cannot ignore the growing concerns for health and safety as a result of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 in South Africa and around the world.

“It is important to highlight that an event of this magnitude has multiple moving parts and for this reason, the brand is deliberating and will communicate further details around new date and tickets by the end of March 2020,” said Castle Lite brand director Silke Bucker.

Due to the current pandemic, Castle Lite wants to do everything we can to protect our team & loyal followers. We’ve chosen to postpone #CastleLiteUnlocks but don’t stress, we’ll keep you updated. Be safe fam. For more info: https://t.co/5sDh6bYlmn pic.twitter.com/tu0TVNmTIy

Bucker added that discussions were being held with Cardi B and her team and all the stakeholders involved to come to a new agreement.

‘As soon as it is safe’

“We would like to assure you that Castle Lite Unlocks will take place as soon as it is safe to host the coolest hip-hop event in South Africa. We acknowledge the disappointing news for the thousands of fans who were excited to attend and witness Castle Lite Unlocks Cardi B, however, the health of our consumers, media and internal teams is always a priority,” he said.

The Castle Lite concert series has previously brought Drake, Kanye West, Travis Scott and Chance the Rapper. This is the first time that the event has had to be postponed.

President Cyril Ramaphosa issued travel bans and restrictions on Italy, France, Spain, China, South Korea and the United States (US) where Cardi B is based.

Gatherings of more than 100 people have also been forbidden as the government moves to limit the spread of the disease. South Africa currently has 150 cases, no fatalities or critical cases.
