Cafè Hemingway's At First Glance
Cafè Hemingway's is situated within an unassuming shopping centre in
Kyalami. However, this New York style bistro, bar and patisserie is anything but ordinary. Upon entrance, you immediately pick up the vibe of the place - a space for intimate conversation with old friends, brimming with the glow of satisfied customers. There is an outdoor seating area should you be in need of a little fresh air or some fair Joburg sunshine. But, the real magic takes place inside.

Firstly, the bar is a marvel. Aptly named
Bar Hemingway's, this handmade copper bar is stocked with over 140 different whiskies from all over the world, including Japan, India and Ireland. The bar team offer tastings and food pairings at your request. And, if you aren't a fan of whisky, they offer rum, wine or champagne tasting experiences.

Bar Hemingway's also boasts an impressive
gastro pub menu. Their most notable dishes include the Atticus Finch platter (think gourmet cheeses, cold meats & smoked salmon, served with assorted pickled vegetables & fresh baked artisan bread). If you are looking for something more filling, try out one of their gourmet burgers. The 'Whopper Toppa' features a massive real beef patty and a variety of perfectly paired toppings with shoestring fries.
Alternatively, ask for the
bistro menu, which is a little more fine dining. The restaurant's in-store specials change daily depending on what their team of chefs source at organic markets. Pop in for one of their famous breakfast delights - pancakes dripping with mascarpone cheese and fresh fruit, or a full English breakfast. Or, take that special someone on a one-of-a-kind date night. Indulge in authentic ceviche (Efrain - served with citrus quinoa, micro coriander & fresh chillies), while sipping on fine wine under romantic incandescent light.

Personalised High Tea
While Cafè Hemingway's savoury menu is a treat to behold, their
dessert selection is where they really shine. You could opt to visit the restaurant and enjoy a few sweet delights off their pre-set menu. Or, you could go all out and contact them to craft a
personalised high tea for yourself and up to 10 friends. The cafès high tea experience is centered around an old-fashioned sensibility - that high tea is an event which should be slowly savoured. Nevertheless, their master pâtissier's are happy to custom design the menu for your high tea event. And, while they do root themselves in classic pastry making, their contemporary creations often break the mould (quite literally).
There are a selection of themes to choose from for your customised high tea event. Opt for the
Alice In Wonderland experience, or the
Isobel high tea for a classic and romantic event. If you are more of a rabble rousing tea lover, go for the
Great Gatsby themed party or the
Run for the Roses experience - a Kentucky themed high tea. Your menu will be planned according to your chosen theme and any dietary specifications you may have. Hemingway's will also bake you a custom birthday cake to accompany your tea if you so wish.
Behind Closed Doors Lies A Sleeping Wonderland
As a closing note, we have to mention the special secret high tea venue tucked neatly away behind the main restaurant area. What looks like a simple
bookcase adorned with hardback covers, is actually a set of sliding doors. The doors open onto a private dining area, featuring a large wooden table, able to seat up to 10 guests. Book lovers will be amazed by the wonderment of this room. Secret high tea surrounded by books... what could be better?
