A Burst Of Flavour Is What South African Cuisine Tastes Like

Joburg Admin / February 4, 2019

If there is something that South Africans are good at, it's cooking and boy do we have variety when it comes to our cuisine. There is a world of bursting diversity to indulge in...

Sakhumzi Restaurant

Sakhumzi restaurant has to be one of the most spoken about African cuisine restaurants in the country. Situated on the most famous street of Soweto, Vilakazi street - this restaurant serves the best of Kasi flavour. One dish that will have hook, line and sinker is the "chakalaka". I have to mention that the vibe at Sakhumzi is absolutely lovely, with the most welcoming service and spirit of what our country is all about. There is a very rich history behind this restaurant, and if you want the true storytellers to fill you in - best visit them! African Cuisine

Pata Pata

Pata Pata has to be the most tummy hugging food ever plus it makes for great comfort food too. Situated in the most hip and happening precincts of Joburg, the Maboneng Precinct - rest assured the ambiance will be a on point. The ambience is a combination of chilled and cosy, but has that electric feeling to it too and you get to enjoy the sultry sounds of Jazz music (I was sold at Food and Jazz). This 60s inspired place will have you feeling welcomed , did I mention that the traditional food they serve is enough to convert any tourist. And well, its all in the name - Pata Pata was known to make people feel good and enjoy themselves back in the day.

Vuyo's Restaurant

Guys! If there is one place that has a very memorable history in our country, it has to be Vuyo's story. Just Google Hansa Pilsner - Vuyo, this was an advert that showcased a story of how Vuyo's humble beginnings because a massive success. Known for his awesome boerewors which says south African is all ways, you can trust that his restaurant will bring a variety of tasty nibbles and flavour. The quirky thing about it is the names of the dishes, they have been named using South African languages like Mokopu which means Pumpkin in Sotho (this dish is grilled butternut and morogo (spinach) fritters with corn kernels, caressed with toasted macademia nuts and dressed with lemon-honey sauce). Mouth watering yet? Vuyo's is situated in Soweto, probably has the friendliest people you could ever ask for so pass by and enjoy a good meal.

Lucky Bean Restaurant

Lucky Bean Restaurant is about variety, something new and amazing food. They have amazing South African dishes with a twist so if you are looking for something fresh and new flavour, this is the place. Authenticity is the word that best describes this gem, situated in the ever so youthful Melville. This area is one that always manages to impress where ambience is involved. Nothing amazing food and jazz music can't fix. They have fine dining elements that make for a super romantic date spot. Okay! Joburg, let's eat the city away.
