The Best Of The Northern Suburbs

Joburg Admin / December 1, 2016

Kramerville A few years ago, Kramerville was comprised solely of fabric and furniture stores and felt very industrial. A recent revisit brought to light what a far cry it is to its former self. Okay, maybe not that different because a number of the original stores remain. However, a new look has been introduced based on the premise of a safe, clean, almost cordoned-off area in Sandton. Coffee shops and restaurants are additions to the many design stores, making Kramerville a friendly and inviting burb to explore. I adore Katy’s palace bar which prides itself on its likeness to a palace (I would say more of an upmarket loft) in décor and feel. It’s perfect for cocktail parties, corporate events and sit-down dinners. What's more, they leave the choice of décor up to you when you book. You can select from various designer themes such as white wedding, sunset terrace, African banquet and others. They even have their Royal Tuk Tuk service to cart your guests around the area. Wild Eye Wild Eye is situated in Fourways - perfect for all the creative young couples who have congregated there. They offer photographic courses including practical experience. Choose from a few topics and locations such as a day trip to the Kruger Park to photograph wildlife. Once you’re a more experienced photographer, you can select one of their photographic safaris or travel packages. There’s the option of guided tours during which an experienced professional can assist you with the composition of your shots, or you are welcome to simply enjoy the beauty that is to be find through the lens. Rosebank The newly opened Bolton Road Collection is part of Rosebank's recent facelift. A fresh new restaurant and cocktail bar kitted with screed flooring, unusual lighting designs and exposed brick walls – you’d expect it to feel cold and stark but their furnishings, incredible food and warm atmosphere make it the perfect end of week stop. If you’re in a shopping mood, then head up to Rosebank Mall which has introduced a variety of upmarket stores and restaurants. There are holiday workshops for kids and expos for adults too. They've also brought back their Sunday rooftop market, famous for the eclectic mix of food stuffs, books, antiques and African crafts. An added bonus is the car boot sale that takes place at the market on the last Sunday of every month. The wares range from old school toys, records and trinkets from days gone by to you name it... Come and see for yourself! Cocktails and canvas Cocktails and canvas in Rivonia uniquely pairs painting (yes, with brushes on canvas)  with fabuous cocktails. That’s right, let your creative juices flow with some alcoholic lubrication. Great for corporate events, private parties and their monthly open night during which anyone can join in. It’s great for meeting people, relaxing and expressing your creative self. A teacher guides you and the package includes your canvas, a cocktail upon arrival and loads of fun. No under 18’s. Further drinks can be purchased from the restaurant. Their sessions run on mornings, afternoons and evenings - so there’s no excuse not to go and explore this very different option!
