This legendary artist whose chart topping hits include It Never Rains in Southern California, Free Electric Band, I’m a Train and Peacemaker, will be making his way back to South Africa to perform two concerts at the Teatro at Montecasino this April!
What is it?
In 2014, Hammond wowed fans and gained many more with his three highly successful concerts, staged in Potchefstroom at the Aardklop National Arts Festival, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Owing to the massive success of his 2014 concerts, local promoter, Charl van Heyningen is bringing the “Peacemaker” back to our country for two more amazing shows.
The Albert Hammond “Songbook Tour” 2016 is a worldwide tour, where Hammond’s live performances showcase his tremendous musical ability. He will be joined on stage by his four-piece band, to present a stunning two-hour musical journey through five decades. One of the world’s greatest songwriters, Albert Hammond has accumulated no less than 360 million records sold worldwide.
Hammond is also an esteemed songwriter who has written some of the best-selling songs in music history, including The Air That I Breathe for The Hollies. Hammond co-wrote many famous numbers such as To All The Girls I've Loved Before, a major ‘80s hit for Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson, One Moment in Time performed by Whitney Houston, and When You Tell Me That You Love Me by Diana Ross.
He is one of very few songwriters of our time whose songs not only have the mass appeal to make them pop hits, but whose very same songs also have the timelessness and depth that over time turns them into standards. With 50 years of songwriting behind him, Hammond recently received the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection.
