Airports – Pretoria

Joburg Admin / January 1, 2023

Thanks to our booming infrastructure sector, South Africa is lucky enough to have seven international airports and many smaller airports scattered around the country – some of which are owned by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and others privately. Besides the obvious benefit of travelling easily around SA and the globe, airports are a vital artery of the export and import industry and play an important role in the economic development of the country.

Gauteng, being the country’s economic hub, has a high number of notable airports, including OR Tambo International Airport, the largest and most popular, Lanseria International Airport, Grand Central Airport, Rand Airport and Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria North.

Other significant airports in the country (in no particular order) include Cape Town International Airport, King Shaka International Airport in Durban, Bloemfontein Airport, East London Airport, George Airport, Margate Airport, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Pilanesberg International Airport, Polokwane International Airport, Richards Bay Airport and Port Elizabeth Airport.

To serve Pretoria’s jet-setting locals who are unable – or not keen – to commute to Johannesburg, Wonderboom has a number of flights – chartered and scheduled – around the country, as well as scheduled flights to Cape Town via Airlink, which makes it that much easier to get around our beautiful nation.

And in case you didn’t know, we also have 11 military airports dotted around, including Pretoria’s well- known AFB Waterkloof, which is the main base of the South African Air Base, and AFB Swartkop, South Africa’s oldest air force base that houses the South African Air Force Museum.

See our Shuttle Services page on our directory.

OR Thambo is South Africa’s biggest airport and most international flights will depart and arrive from this destination.

OTHER SMALLER AIRPORTS CLOSE TO PRETORIA INCLUDE

  • Lanseria International (35 km/22 miles SW of Pretoria)
  • Wonderboom National Airport (11 km/7 miles N of Pretoria city centre)
  • Grand Central (27 km/17 miles SSW of Pretoria)

See our Airports page in the directory for more information.
