94.7 Joburg Day

Joburg Admin / August 23, 2006

94.7 Joburg Day, come celebrate it with us. September is heritage month, and what better way to embrace our heritage than with a celebration of South African music. That’s right, Joburg’s biggest music event, the Joburg Day Music Festival with 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Santam is back, and promises to be better than ever. A star-studded line-up has been secured for the event, including Arno Carstens, Jamali, Johnny Clegg, Just Jinjer, Karen Zoid, Prime Circle, Heinz Winckler, Dr. Victor, Denim and Watershed. “94.7 has a long history of promoting local artists and is committed to showcasing local music, as seen in our playlists and through features like Julio Garcia’s Homebrew show,” said Ravi Naidoo, 94.7 Highveld Stereo station manager. “Joburg Day is really an extension of that commitment - 94.7 is Proudly South African and proud of SA music.” Naidoo says a record crowd is expected at this year’s event. “Last year 10 000 Joburgers attended Joburg Day, we’re expecting up to 12 000 people to attend this year’s event. The Randburg Sports Complex is a safe and secure venue and, as in previous years, food and refreshment stalls will be available for concert goers, although people are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets,” he added. Joburg Day is being hosted with the full permission and support of the City of Joburg, and complies with the city’s comprehensive disaster management plan. A host of kiddies’ entertainment has also been lined up, including arts and crafts, sand art, face painters, carousels, jumping castles, a climbing wall, a velcro wall and the space gyro. Joburg Day with 94.7 and Santam takes place on Saturday, 16th of September at the Randburg Sports Complex. Tickets are R120 per person (excluding Computicket fees) and are available online at Computicket. Entry for children under 12 is R50 per child, and these tickets are available at the gate on the day. Gates open at 8am, with the concert kicking off at 11am, and ending at around 7pm. Secure parking is available free of charge at the venue. Please note this year no alcohol whatsoever will be allowed into the venue. Glass bottles, glass containers and gas or charcoal braais are also prohibited.
