1950s Nostalgia Lives At Pretville Town & Bioscope

Joburg Admin / March 7, 2022

You needn't travel abroad to visit a real-life film town. Pretville is Hartiwood Films' very own film town complete with classic cars, a Bioscope cinema and a retro diner! Situated in Hartbeespoort, this hidden gem is most definitely worth visiting. Bring the whole family along for good old-fashioned fun.

The Coolest Town Around

Pretville is the only film town of its calibre open to the public in South Africa. Come and marvel at the realistic 1950s style sets and props, including a variety of funky vintage cars. This is the ideal spot to take a few candid photographs or simply make some great memories. There are a ton of fun activities to enjoy in the town as well. Slurp up a delicious milkshake at the Pretville Diner or take a tour of the town and see where all the movie magic happens. It's an absolute must-visit for film fundi's and 1950s fanatics. The Bioscope

After you've enjoyed a scrumptious burger at the diner, head on down to the Pretville Bioscope. Here you can watch all the Hartiwood produced films absolutely free! The self-titled 'Pretville' is a delightful Afrikaans musical set in the 1950s. You'll be enchanted by the light-hearted storytelling and catchy tunes. And, if candy floss cinema isn't your idea of a good time, there's always Hartiwood Films heartwarming family drama 'French Toast'. All in all, you are bound to have a smashingly good time at the Pretville Bioscope.

Events

If you've always wanted to have a 1950s themed birthday or baby shower, Pretville is the place for you. You can book private photo shoots, birthday parties, year-end functions, engagement and baby showers, and even weddings at the venue. So don't waste time and money trying to create your own 1950s replica town, because Pretville is where it's at! All you'll need to worry about is finding the perfect outfit to go along with the rock and rolling 50s theme. You can find more information on event bookings on the Pretville website.
