Woodrock Animal Rescue, a beacon of hope for countless creatures, has been a cornerstone of South Africa’s animal welfare landscape since its inception in 1992. Founded by the passionate duo of Nicholas and Stella Meldau, the organisation has grown into a leading non-profit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need.
A Haven for Over 500 Animals
Woodrock is more than just a rescue center; it’s a sanctuary where over 500 animals find refuge at any given time. From majestic donkeys and playful pigs to cuddly rabbits and graceful geese, the spectrum of creatures under their care is vast. Each animal has a story, a testament to the resilience of life, and Woodrock is their steadfast guardian.
With an unwavering commitment to animal welfare, Woodrock has become synonymous with compassion and care.
Woodrock Cat Café
In a groundbreaking move, Woodrock has recently introduced a cat café, located at Kyalami Corner. Imagine the delight of sipping a latte while being serenaded by the gentle purrs of contented cats. This innovative concept, inspired by the success of cat cafés worldwide, is poised to become a beloved destination for animal lovers and coffee connoisseurs alike.
The café provides a cosy space for patrons to relax and unwind but also offer a unique opportunity to interact with adoptable cats. It’s a win-win situation, as it promotes cat welfare and increases the chances of finding loving homes for these furry companions.

Woodrock Pop-Ups
Woodrock’s dedication to animal welfare extends beyond their sanctuary. The organisation’s Pop-Up events bring the joy of canine companionship to communities across South Africa. These events offer a platform for dogs to socialise, exercise, and find their forever homes.
By introducing families to the wonders of dog ownership, Woodrock is fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership. The Pop-Ups also serve as a valuable tool for educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, as well as the challenges faced by rescue organizations.
Healing Through Human-Animal Bond
Recognising the therapeutic benefits of human-animal interaction, Woodrock has launched Puppy Therapy Pods. These sessions offer individuals the opportunity to connect with adorable puppies in a supportive environment.
Studies have shown that spending time with animals can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
