Make A Date With The Born In Joburg Market

Est. Reading: 2 minutes
Weekends in Joburg are only getting better with the addition of food truck market, Born in Joburg at Blackbrick club in the heart of Sandton. The market is a one stop outdoor food court, that’s rounded up some of city’s best culinary establishments to offer freshly-made street food, served out of funky mobile trailers.

The space is more than just a food truck event. The market includes a network of the city’s up-and-coming and popular artists, DJs and musicians (like November’s headliner, JSomething ) fusing food with entertainment to attract about 1000 electric Joburgers of all kinds from the hipsters and trendsetters to families with kids every first weekend of the month for a unique vibe.

Come very, very Hungry

Market-goers are spoilt for choice with several diverse food trucks serving up tasty options. Whether its comfort food you’re looking for, or an ice-cream treat, the array of trucks at the market are sure to satisfy. Look forward to authentic South African kotas from Lumamonate, Neapolitan style pizza from Napz, delicious ribs and wings from The Wing Republic, or smash burgers and loaded fries from Tjips Co and finish off with desert from Paul's Homemade Ice Cream. And refresh with WineTap who offer wine on tap from their statement black caravan. The hearty kotas from Lumamonate are a standout dish to lookout for, and you can never go wrong with their deep-fried chicken sandwich with a homemade pickle.

Something Different

Inspired by her families’ background in the Food Truck business where she grew up in PE and a passion for curating events, Tayla Foong identified a gap in the market and linked up with Joburg-based multidisciplinary creative, Thabo HouseCatz Mshengu who shared her entrepreneurial itch to create something different in Joburg's very competitive entertainment scene.

With Covid taking a knock-on markets and festivals, Born in Joburg is breathing life into the social scene  and restaurant industry once more by bringing foot traffic and exposure to these food businesses and catering to the growing preference of safe, open-space outings.

Apart from street food and live music, market goers can look forward to entertainment which caters to the whole family including a craft bar and kid’s activities. The Friday night market features a live performance and a DJ line-up, and for the kids there are e-scooter tours. The Saturday morning trade focuses on fresh produce.

The deets

The next Born in Joburg market is on the first Saturday and Sunday of February 2022. Lookout for updates on activities and performance line-ups on the Facebook and Instagram page.  And if you want to host a unique Food truck themed corporate or private function you can get in touch via email.
