Unlearn this Women’s Day


Unlearn your prejudices against mental health, sexual abuse and the female body this National Women’s Day and come to the Market Theatre Laboratory to see an honest and riveting theatre production performed by MoMo Matsunyane. 

What Is It?

unlearn is written and performed by award-winning actor MoMo Matsunyane. The play is about a young woman, Angel Mojapelo who dreams of having a career in stand-up comedy. However, at the ripe old age of 27, her unfulfilled career choices begin to weigh heavily on her heart and mind. She struggles with depression and anxiety, using her comedy to escape past traumas. When Angel is raped at a party her life changes forever. She discovers that she has fallen pregnant by someone she doesn’t know or even remember. Refusing to bear the shame of what happened to her, she makes a decision that changes her fate completely.

Celebrate this National Women’s Month at the Market Theatre Laboratory. unlearn is bound to have you in tears, fits of laughter and moments of deep thought. So, bring your girlfriends along for a riveting theatre experience as the play highlights the effects of suffering from mental illness, as well as the female body as a site of violence.
