The Shortmarket Club in the bustling suburb of Rosebank, which is known for its sophisticated dining fare, will soon be closing its doors. It has been sold to a new owner for a new dining experience heading our way in April 2025.

Farewell To The Shortmarket Club
The Shortmarket Club founded by renowned chef and restaurateur, Luke Dale Roberts, will become Ocaso under the ownership of seasoned restaurateur, Heinz Rynners. Formal ownership of the restaurant has been transferred to Heinz, and the current restaurant will remain open until Friday, 31 January 2025.
About Ocaso
Ocaso, in partnership with Corona, is scheduled to open in April 2025, to provide a Mexican-inspired dining experience.
Heinz is a seasoned restaurateur who is the creative force behind some of Johannesburg’s most beloved eateries, such as Livy’s, Joy Jozi, and The Greenhouse Bar and Restaurant. Ben Stanger and Luke Dakers have joined Heinz as partners in the operational management of Ocaso. The three of them want to make Ocaso a unique place to eat in the City of Gold.

Tyron Gentry, the current head chef of The Shortmarket Club, will oversee Ocaso’s kitchen. He will continue to demonstrate his inventiveness and culinary flair while bringing Mexican-inspired cuisine to life while upholding the high standards that patrons have grown accustomed to.
