The HalaalGoods Market Heads To The Fox Precinct

Document

If you think halaal food – food that is permissible for Muslims to consume – is just about samoosas, bobotie and biryani, then think again! The upcoming HalaalGoods Market (HGM) will change the way that South Africans view halaal food.

Indulge At The HalaalGoods Market

From bao buns, Korean wings and smashburgers to fried ice cream, baklava and French macarons, South Africa’s first artisanal halaal food and design market continues to showcase food and goods in a modern, innovative and proudly South African way.

From food to locally made clothing, kids craft play areas and a comedy show, there’s plenty to enjoy at the market. “HGM represents and celebrates the diversity of Muslim communities in South Africa and around the world,” says HGM founder, Fehmida Jordaan.

An All-Inclusive Cultural Experience

Jordaan is particularly proud of the fact that the market is inclusive of all cultures and religions, and features a selection of carefully-curated, culturally-diverse vendors from across South Africa. “More than half of our vendors are female owned businesses,” says Jordaan proudly.

While the market is guided by an Islamic ethos, HGM is open to avid foodies from all walks of life. So explore the different tastes and flavours that Joburg’s cultural melting pot has to offer.

HalaalGoods Market Is Family-Friendly

The market is family-centred, making it perfect for families. Expect large seating areas, family-friendly comedy shows, kids craft activities and a play space for tweens and teens. There’s sure to be something to keep your little ones entertained as you explore the market.

Inspired by local artisanal markets and the global street-food scene, HGM was established six years ago by Jordaan. “We want to support and promote small, unique, local businesses and diverse food businesses that are halaal. These businesses are the heartbeat of our economy and employ people,” explains Jordaan.
