Geldhof Chocolatiers has been bringing Joburg the finest Belgian chocolate confections since 1991. From delightful little choccie truffles to sugar-free dark chocolate slabs, they have all you could need to make this the sweetest Christmas ever. Geldhof recently released their new Christmas selection, featuring old favourites and a few new special treats. Here are our top picks for the season:
Santa has paid an early visit to Geldhof, bringing you his personal hamper filled with merry goodies and treats, with 500g assorted chocolates, 15 assorted truffles, eight hazelnut chocolate logs, a 90g chocolate slab, peanut clusters, chocolate coated nuts, five almond truffles, 10 hollow chocolate balls, honey-dipped almonds, chocolate shortbread, chocolate covered marshmallows and marzipan and coconut clusters! Available for only *R680, this brimming basket offers value for money with a great selection of Geldhof's best chocolate goodies. Ideal as a gift for families, there is more than enough variety here to please all.
While our Christmas season takes place in the boiling hot summer, you never really need an excuse to enjoy a rich cup of hot chocolate. Geldhof's hot chocolate mugs are back this Christmas, bringing you the smoothest warm drink to enjoy after a big festive feast. Their mugs come with four assorted white, milk and dark chocolate truffles and a chocolate spoon. All you need to do is add warm milk or water and mix it all together! Both children and adults alike will be delighted by this sweet gift, so add a few to your shopping basket.
Geldhof Chocolates cater to any and all budgets over the Christmas period with their range of gift boxes. So, whether you can only afford a cute one-piece box, or the largest 48 piece assorted box, there will be something special for your loved ones here. Our top pick is the middle of the range round box, which contains 17 of Geldhof's most delicious chocolate nibbles. The boxes are decorated with smiling Santas, snowmen and Christmas baubles, adding to the whimsy of the gift. However, the best part about this is that the recipient can keep the box long after the chocolates have been eaten!
Now, for one of Geldhof's most famous confectionery treats - the liquer box. Available in various sizes, these boxes contain assorted tots of liqueur cased safely inside a chocolate shell. Perfect for the tipple loving members of your family or friend circle. Alternatively, buy a box for your adult Christmas table. There is enough variety in each box for each person to find one they like. Just be sure not to down too many at once.
Nothing quite says "Merry Christmas" like a chocolate gift bag. This year, Geldhof has introduced assorted ready-made bags for adults and children. Featuring chocolate balls, peanut clusters, chocolate coated marshmallows, Christmas bells and much more. Place a gift bag or two under the Christmas tree as a special surprise or hand them out as parting gifts on Christmas day.
To help you get into the festive spirit, Geldhof Chocolate will be running a fantastic competition between 01 December 2019 - 20 December 2019. Spend R100 or more in store and stand the chance to win a giant chocolate Santa Claus. Check out their website for more information.

The scintillating idea of a romantic and spontaneous spot to relax is just what anyone needs after a long day or week, so consider a divine break away to Truffles On The Park. This lovely bistro and bar sits – somewhat ironically – in Sandton's Mushroom Farm Park and promises to take dining to a whole new level.
Inspired by its surroundings, the bistro tells the tale of a love affair with botanics that is relatively new to Joburg. When you hear about a place that boasts playful palate eats and an inspiring environment, what is left but to indulge in it?
Dive right in to the creative menu. I'm going to come right out and say it, my absolute favourite was the sauteed mushroom truffle risotto; absolutely took my breath away. Melt in you mouth does not even begin to explain the experience of indulging in this dish. What really stood out for me was the presentation, unexpected and witty - effortless elegance beyond what you can imagine.
Truffles On The Park have scrumptious eats for vegans too – mouthwatering dishes such as warm Moroccan chickpea and roasted tomato salad or burnt corn and avo with red onions. This was fresh and bursting with diverse flavour.
Truffles head chef, Lance Louise, aims to fill everyone's tummy with happiness through the effortless flair that he and the team literally bring to the table. And he gets it right. “My passion is to use local fresh organic produce that is sustainably sourced and farmed. My food style is rich in flavour with some unusual and unexpected twists but always unpretentious and accessible."
If you're a foodie, put Truffles On The Park down as one for the books.
Billed as a botanical bar, Truffles has well over 40 clear spirits infused with floral and plant-derived ingredients, ranging from the botanical inspired theme with lavender, rose and violet, elderflower, hibiscus and more.
Their beautiful selection includes something fruity too, with cocktails strategically made to fit the essence of what botanicals are about – be it through the use of subtle colours or effortless garnishes.
Ryan Illgner, a reputable Interior Design Honours graduate and partner of the infamous Blacksmith - worked on the decor to add some inspiring, creative, romantic touches to Truffles. It's the botanical features that make you feel you're sitting in a magical garden instead of the city.
Of course, Sandton's Mushroom Farm Park is a favourite to many who run or walk with their pets. So feel free to drop in at Truffles with your best friend, as long as they are kept on their leashes.
