The school holidays are officially upon us. Now is the time to start planning activities to keep the kids busy and entertained. If your little one is a future Michelin chef in the making, we have just the thing for them. The Wooden Spoon Kitchen will be hosting a five day Holiday Cooking Bootcamp for kids aged 10 and older. Not only will kids learn confidence in the kitchen, but they will gain valuable cooking and baking skills. Although this workshop is quite intense, it is also loads of fun. Kids will be taught how to cook under pressure, as well as how to prepare wholesome meals for the whole family. So you can relax around the table, and let the kids do the cooking next Sunday lunch!

If your kids have a keen interest in the arts and dream of becoming a Broadway star one day, then why not let them enjoy a Musical Theatre Holiday Club at the Johannesburg Academy for Theatre Arts? The club is focused on all school-going children of various ages (between 6 - 16 years old) and offers a programme that evolves around co-ordination, musicality, expression, voice projection, improvisation and performance. No previous experience is needed and the staff work with the children’s individual and unique abilities. The club will run from Monday, 23 September and Wednesday, 25 September to Friday, 27 September 2019 from 8:30 to 12:00. Please note: 24 September is a public holiday.

September shows for teens and kids will be Secret of the Cardboard Rocket (Saturday, 05 October 2019 at 12:30) and Space Travel (Saturday, 28 September 2019 from 10:30 and Saturday, 05 October 2019 from 12:30), so book your spots ASAP. Perfect for reconnecting your kids with nature, the Shepherd's Fold Stables' Pony Camp offers a fun and exciting learning experience, especially for kids that have a fondness for horses. The programme will be taking place from 25 - 27 September 2019 and offers two days of riding lessons, outrides, hands-on care of horses, lots of activities, lectures and games. There's also a one day Mini Pony Camp for little ones aged between 4 - 6! Another fun and interesting school holiday programme that will get the kids out and about is Rangers Day at Lory Park Zoo from 25 - 27 September 2019 and 01 - 04 October 2019 (08:00 - 16:00). This gives children the opportunity to be a zoo ranger for the day, and they'll clean some enclosures, help prepare food for the resident animals and also get to interact with the zoo's ambassador animals. The whole experience will be supervised at all times by the education officer or on-duty supervisor to ensure their safety. The cost is *R200 per day, which will include lunch, drink and chips. Also, ensure your child has extra water, sunscreen and old clothes that can get dirty, as well as extra snacks to nibble on throughout the day.
It might not be too late to book a spot for your kids at the Olympics Holiday Camp at Immaculate Equestrian Academy in Walkerville from 22 - 27 September 2019. It's the perfect way to get them away from their gadgets, off the couch and outdoors playing and making new friends. There will be plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep the kids entertained.
