These bird shows are held in the Tuscan amphitheatre, twice daily from Monday and Friday, and three times a day over weekends and public holidays.

A few of our favourites we recommend are the Prawn Avalanche — a California roll with prawn filling, topped with half a tempura-rolled prawn and spicy mayo sauce; the Snow Crab Rolls — crab tempura rolls with mayo and sweet chilli topped with avo, Sriracha mayo and caviar and last but certainly not least, the C & C Bombs — crab and cream cheese bombs crumbed, deep-fried and topped with smoked mayo and caviar. It's all about the sushi at The Big Mouth Sushi & Grill at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. It's slightly more expensive here, but believe us, it's SO worth it! You can expect to tuck into a wonderful selection of world-class sushi, no matter which kind you prefer. Take your pick from moreish poké bowls, new-style sashimi, a few traditional classics and plenty of interesting signature choices. One of the signature sushi options that really caught our attention was the Chicago Roll — Panko rock shrimp, cream cheese, tobiko, teriyaki, sweet chilli jam, tempura chilli, kewpie mayo, garlic flakes and spring onion. If you happen to be in the inner city when your sushi craving hits, then make your way to The Blackanese Sushi & Wine Bar in the hip and happening Maboneng Precinct. If you're looking for sushi that will not bust your budget, then make sure you check out Yamada. They've got a conveyor belt so, if you don’t feel like ordering from a waiter, you can just pull up a bar chair and help yourself to the variety that's spinning around and around! Once you're done, they stack up your plates and tally up the cost. Easy! We love their lunchbox, which comes with 15 pieces of mixed sushi but change it to salmon only. Trust us, it’s a feast!

Hashi is a fab spot to head for fusion sushi with a twist. They’ve got all sorts of interesting creations that you need to try out like the Taku, which is tofu tempura, cream cheese, avo, spring onion with mango/strawberry/kiwi and wakame, on a bed of spicy sauce and Hashi’s secret sauce. Another delicious option is the Udon Japanese Noodles (if you’re not a sushi purist, that is), stir-fried with chicken, prawns or veggies. And a for dessert, make sure you try the chocolate spring rolls!

So Yum has lots of dim sum on the menu — we like the pork and mushroom filled parcels. But that's not all! Their sushi is great, especially when eaten with a side of edamame beans. How about some tuna roses and a rainbow roll or two? The latter comes with crab, avo, salmon, tuna, caviar and mayo – basically, it’s the works.

JB’s Corner
While JB’s is not a sushi restaurant per se, they do have a menu dedicated entirely to the delicacy. What’s really great about it is that you can swap the stock-standard white rice for healthier brown rice – health freaks, rejoice! Their fashion sandwiches are to-die-for. Another interesting option we found on the menu of the Melrose Arch branch was the Chirashi. It's a cake of sushi rice (looks like a rice cake almost) that has spicy salmon, avo, cucumber, caviar and sesame seeds stacked on top.
Bedfordview’s Yamitsuki has a conveyor belt, so you can choose whichever dishes catch your eye if you're too hungry to wait to be served (fair enough). The quality is great and their salmon and cream cheese fashion sandwiches are sublime. Another must-have is the Salmon, Strawberry & Cream Cheese Rainbow Philadelphia Roll... once you try it, you'll be hooked. And for dessert — dessert sushi! It's a crêpe sushi roll with fresh strawberries, Nutella, cookies, honey and your fortune!

Together, the two set out to produce the worst musical ever to hit Broadway. At this exciting event, you will get to witness the country’s best motocross and freestyle motocross riders battling it out in the King of the Whip - Best Whip and FMX Best Trick contests. No other form of sport defies the odds like this one. The day will showcase death-defying manoeuvres from top local and international motocross and freestyle motocross riders.

Presented by Pringles, powered by Motul and in association with Monster Energy and PlayStation, King of the Whip is the best whip contest Johannesburg has ever seen.
"A “whip” is one of the most spectacular stunts that can be performed on a motorcycle. It involves highly skilled riders taking off from a ramp, and “whipping” the rear of the bike from side to side. After all the qualifying rounds and exciting final, the rider that performs the biggest whip will be crowned the winner on the night."
You can see some of this action in their Best Trick segment, which will include the likes of the Rock-Solid, Tsunami, Switchblade and many more jaw-dropping moments.
King of the Whip is not just about showcasing tricks, it's also about exceptional skills.

Paul Slabolepszy's new work Bitter Winterwill be on stage at the Studio Theatre at Montecasino this March. A play about the rocky road that so many artists find themselves compelled to travel, Bitter Winter pays homage to the dreamers and storytellers that entertain and enlighten us on stage, screen and television. Pieter Toerien Productions kicks off their 2020 theatre season with a bang! The Producersis a musical comedy of epic farcical proportions. Based on the 1968 film of the same name, The Producers sees fading Broadway producer Max Bialystock partner up with mousy accountant Leo Bloom to revive his career. Leo comes up with a hatch plan to skyrocket their success - by putting on the worst stage musical Broadway has ever seen! However, things go awry when their show turns out to be a hit.

What To Expect
The hi Hotels brand is positioned in the select service category, offering room rates at below R1 000. The rooms have luxurious walk-in showers, big windows, blackout curtains, coffee and tea stations, laptop-sized safes, USB ports and 48-inch TVs. The ‘living lobby’ provides space to work and play, and a convenient deli offering for a quick snack or coffee on the run.
Technology is an important element for hi Hotels. It'll be the first hotel within the Tsogo Sun Hotels stable to offer online and self-check-in facilities. The hotel’s TV system will allow guests to cast their own content to their room TV in a simple process of connecting to the free uncapped high speed WiFi, scanning a QR code and opening the app of their choice.
hi Hotels Heads To Montecasino
The first hi Hotel is opening at Montecasino in Johannesburg by late January 2020 with 123 bedrooms (46 double doubles and 77 queens) that are modern, uncluttered and comfortable. The hotel offers easy access to the many varied restaurants, bars, theatres, shops, conference and event venues, and other entertainment options at Montecasino.
The hotel is located less than 100 metres away from the outdoor piazza. “The location is a good example of what we are looking for in future hi Hotels sites. For the concept to work, we need sites that have a variety of restaurants within walking distance and centrally located near to an entertainment or corporate node.
“We’re proud to be breaking new ground with this fresh brand – and we look forward to introducing people to the hi Hotels offering,” says De Raedt.
Paul Slabolepszy's Suddenly The Stormthunders into the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino this March. This highly acclaimed award-winning play, returns for a limited three-week season in Joburg after its world premiere at the Market Theatre in 2016.
Suddenly The Storm has been described as one of the most powerful South African plays since the birth of democracy. Set in contemporary South Africa, on Johannesburg's East Rand, the play poses the question of whether the wounds of the past can ever really be healed.

The Story
The action takes place at the home of an ageing ex-cop (Dwayne) and his much younger wife (Shanell). Combative, volatile, constantly on the verge of exploding, they are two halves of a white South African working-class couple, living an uneasy truce as they struggle with the day-to-day trials of scraping together a living and dreaming competing dreams.
Beneath Dwayne's angry, violent exterior lies the heartbreak that governs his attitude to life. He is a man in mourning. Shanell believes his current level of despair was sparked by the death of his childhood friend and recent work partner, Jonas, but the source of his mourning and anger lies much further back.
When suddenly, a storm approaches, it's not Dwayne or Shanell expect. Enter the elegant Namhla Gumede, born on 16 June 1976. Seeking answers to questions that have remained buried for 40 long years, her arrival reveals long hidden truths.
Suddenly The Storm was initially launched to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprisings. What begins as a smoldering dark comedy, suddenly turns into a roller-coaster ride of startling revelations, of rage and recrimination, before the storm finally breaks.

Who is Paul Slabolepszy?
Paul Slabolepszy needs no introduction; having written more than thirty-five plays as well as radio, television and film scripts over a 50 year career. His many plays include Saturday Night at the Palace; Mooi Street Moves, Boo to the Moon, Making like America, Smallholding, Braait Laaities, Pale Natives, My Low-Fat Almost Italian Wedding, the multi-award-winning The Return of Elvis du Pisanie and Heel Against the Head (with the inimitable Bill Flynn as Tjokkie).
Slabolepszy's theatre is the kind that throws up a whirlwind of mixed emotions - greed, love, loss and healing. Touching on distinctly South African topics that make this country so rich and rewarding for those who can brave its storms. Suddenly the Storm is directed by Bobby Heaney and features Renate Stuurman (as Namhla), Charmaine Weir-Smith (as Shanell) and Paul Slabolepszy (as Dwayne). Expect powerful acting, inspired writing and incisive direction, promising to make this production a truly memorable event.
It’s a terribly moving play and the message of optimism comes at a time when we are all foundering. While it’s a very real play, so utterly real, it’s highly entertaining.
