Where It All Began

Landscape Architect and Horticulturist, Greg Straw developed the Fourways Farmers Market in 2013. His vision was to create a space where artisans and crafters could sell to the public. Set within a beautiful outdoor garden, this was to be an intimate market experience. However, as the market made its debut at the Fourways Farmstead, it became increasingly popular. Drawing in hundreds of visitors to their weekly Sunday market, the Fourways Farmers Market is undoubtedly one of the most popular weekend craft and food events in the city.

With over 107 vendor stalls, selling an array of cheese, sweets, gourmet meals and drinks, the market is a hive of activity. Patrons are welcome to take a seat under the Jacarandas, or on the famous hay bales. Surrounded by plant life, under the glorious Joburg sun, the market is an idyllic retreat from busy city life. However, space has become limited, often causing frustration among visitors. With limited parking available onsite and a cramped market space, the Fourways Farmers Market was in need of a new home.

The Modderfontein Nature Reserve

On Friday, 22 November 2019, the Fourways Farmers Market announced the location of their new home! The former Val Bonne Country Estate at the Modderfontein Nature Reserve will now host your favourite weekly market. A short trip from Fourways, the Modderfontein Nature Reserve offers ample outdoor space. The surrounding views are also quite spectacular. This family-friendly venue is sure to be a welcome change for both the vendors and regular patrons of the market. However, you can still find all the fresh, local goodness you have come to expect from the Fourways Farmers Market.

The market made its official debut at the Modderfontein Nature Reserve in March 2020, giving them a few months to prepare the venue to accommodate all their vendors and you, of course. If you can't wait, then take a trip to their sister market, the Waterfall Market at the Mall of Africa in Midrand. Featuring the same collection of vendors, this market is a must-visit for artisan products. Click here to find out when the next Fourways Farmers Market will be held. The Rose Glam-Up Watch

The pop-up store has already seen a number of visitors. Their best seller so far is the ladies Rose Glam-Up Watch. Part of the Glam-Up edition, this wrist watch features gorgeous rose gold details and an intricate rose design at the centre of the piece. Celebrating the strength of African women, this watch is a classic timepiece. Visit the store to get your hands on one.

Stacked combos

According to the fashion gurus, jewellery stacking is bang on trend right now. To help you keep up with the times, the pop-up store allows you to create your own custom layered combinations. Design your very own stacked watch and bracelet set which reflects your personality. Whether you pick a classic watch or an African-inspired design, there are beautiful bracelet accompaniments to all watch pieces. Both men and ladies can create their own custom designs.

If you need a little help choosing your combo pieces, check out the Era by DJ Zinhle online store. DJ Zinhle's team have selected a few custom combo pieces of their own which are available to order. Our top pick for the ladies is the Pink Afro Edition Combo. The Pink Afro Edition watch with unique face front design is perfect paired with the Silver Beat music note bracelet and Silver Precious bracelet. At only *R 1,478.00 for the whole set, this is an investment well worth making.

For the guys, we like the Boss Black Watch Combo. The seriousness of the Black Eraholic Bracelet and Black Buckle Bracelet are offset by the playfulness of the centre watch design. Fun but professional, this watch should definitely be on your Christmas wish list!

What Is It?

Joburgers love curated food, art and beverages. We just adore having things tailored just to our personal liking. Artisan markets are therefore becoming increasingly popular. These fun-filled family events are also the perfect way to unwind on the weekends. With offerings of tasty treats, craft drinks and a distinctly Joburg vibe, visiting markets is the new way to explore the city.

The Mall of Africa is the single largest shopping precinct in the whole of Africa. What better place to hold a weekend market than just outside the mall? Here are all the details you need to know about the opening of the very first Waterfall Sunday Market:

Where Is It?

The Waterfall Market will be set up at Waterfall Park on Sunday, 17 February 2019. The park is just opposite the Mall of Africa in Midrand. This expansive picnic ground plays host to many outdoor family-friendly events, including holiday-themed night markets. In November 2018, the organisers of the Fourways Farmers Market hosted a summer night market at the venue. Now, the park will be transformed into an artisans wonderland. Featuring the best crafters, artists, bakers and musicians the city has to offer. The venue is child-friendly and is the perfect spot to go for a Sunday afternoon picnic.

Food & Drink

There will be a plethora of exciting food stalls on show at the Waterfall Market. From gourmet street food trucks to home-baked breads and cakes. Organic food fundies should also have their spoils, as Joburg's finest fresh produce stalls will line the Waterfall Plaza.

Drink enthusiasts, your needs have not been forgotten. The usual gin, craft beer and cider stalls should be expected at the event, as well as wine and champagne tasting expositions. Visitors can enjoy their food goodies and ice cold drinks at communal tables set up around the park. Alternatively, bring along a picnic blanket and make up your own little feast spot in the park.

Pretoria-based singer-songwriter duo, Bad Peter, will be headlining the Waterfall Market stage. PG Badenhorst and Alwyn Bekker (a.k.a Bad Peter) have released two EP's since their inception in 2014. They released their last musical output, titled 'Need to Hear', independently in 2017. Their music is distinctly South African, as it blends various styles and genres into one smooth sound. 'We don’t like to limit ourselves to a specific genre.  Being singer-songwriters gives us that freedom. You’ll hear folk, blues, african, pop and latin influences in our songs', Bad Peter says of their style.

Steve Madden

South Africa got used to shopping online for Steve Madden brand wear. So, it was a total eyebrow raise when they decided to open up a store right here on home ground. A lot of word of mouth went around when they decided to place this heavenly shop in Midrand.

Steve Madden boast excellence with heels that have all the ladies going crazy, as well as shoes that have the gentlemen feeling like they've just walked out of GQ. Their brand is all about making a statement and making fashion proud, as every shoe is a representation of quality.

The KitKat Chocolatory Pop-Up Store Is Coming To Joburg!

For the first time in Africa, Nestlé  KitKat will be launching their deliciously divine KitKat Chocolatory, a unique pop-up store that gives chocoholics the opportunity to create personalised, handcrafted KitKats. From 24 November 2018 for four weeks, Nestlé  KitKat will be setting up shop at the Mall of Africa. Who's excited? Because we are!

The KitKat Chocolatory allows you to explore your creative side by conceptualising your own unique KitKat using the interesting and exclusive flavour combinations available. This exciting concept has been successful for Nestlé  KitKat around the globe, including in Japan, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and many others.

KitKat Chocolatory

How It Works

To create your own KitKat 'break' at the pop-up store, follow these four easy steps:

1. Which type of chocolate?

First, select your favourite Nestlé  KitKat — white or dark?

2. Choose your toppings

Then add up to THREE delicious toppings to your bar from their selection of 14 toppings. Included are zesty lemon pieces, caramelised hazelnut crocant, mint chips, strawberry pearls, caramel fudge, coconut, mixed berry fruit pieces, honeycomb, shortbread, tutti frutti, and more. There's something for everyone!

3. Personalise it!

Now you need to select a personalised pack and message. You even get to include a name. The pack selection offers five different designs with stunning photography of iconic South African landmarks and African animals. Take your pick from the Johannesburg skyline, the Orlando Towers, Table Mountain, our Big Five or a gifting option. Also, there are 16 different messages to choose from.

4. Take it home

The final step is to pay. Since your own personalised bar is handcrafted, there's about a 20-minute wait for it to be made. An SMS notification will tell you when it's ready for collection. Your creation will be handed to you in a gift bag with a gift card.

KitKat Chocolatory

And That's Not All!

As if all of this wasn't awesome enough, Nestlé  KitKat has three Special Edition chocolates that have been inspired by desserts, available at the pop-up store only. There's Milk Tart, Trifle and Black Forest. A limited number will be available each day.

When Is It?

The KitKat Chocolatory pop-up store will be open for business from Saturday, 24 November 2018 to Saturday, 22  December 2018.

Where Is It?
