Baby Gaga Decor

One thing every parent wants for their children is joy and a good upbringing. Sometimes mamas and papas want the extra tiny bits — the cherry on top type of bits like Interior design for babies. So we're here to hook you up with cuteness overload.

Apparently, the first thing that people often think of when you mention baby language is "Googoo Gaga". So, how about Baby Gaga? One of the best in interior design, they tailor your baby's room to your specific needs and add that je ne sais quoi that will have everyone gobsmacked. Baby Gaga is situated in Fourways at the Cedar Square Shopping Centre.

Baby Belle

Baby Belle is situated in Cape Town, but we won't let that limit us, right? Well, luckily you don't have to go there to get their adorable stuff. You can just buy everything on their site and become a self established interior designer. I mean, nothing is better than knowing you can add your own personal touch, right mama? Right.

Baby Belle actually boasts hand crafted goods, so you definitely know that you are getting your money's worth. Their pieces ooze elegance and overall cutism (cute - izim), I call it. Your nana's room will be as cute as him/her.

Baby Couture

One word to describe this boutique would be "Modern". Baby Couture is the true definition of style. Their designs really stand out. The soft textures that they add really makes a room feel like a baby's room and a comforting environment. Your little munchkin will feel all cuddled and stuff.

Parents are becoming more conscious in their decision making when it comes to their bundles of joy. This boutique will put every mama and papa at ease because it is all about quality and style. Inspired by the love of textiles, you can rest assured that they will get creative with whatever idea you might have.

They ship countrywide, so you don't have to worry about the logistics, other the envy you will be faced with when your friends come over. LOL!

Little Interiors

Mariëtte Sakelliou, the owner of Little Interiors, brings a fresh perspective to the little one's bedroom. Her designs are very lifestyle conscious, and quality driven so you don't have to ponder about how long it will last.

Her lifestyle blog is a good one to follow for some fresh ideas and inspiration to add some adorable touches to the room — maybe even encourage you to do something unique with your own room.

The boutique boasts variety, so you will be spoiled for choice, without a doubt.

The Location

When the team opened The Rock Diner in early 2018, they quickly realised that Design Quarter is the place to be. Since then, The Rock Diner has experienced incredible support from patrons in the area. Their thinking is, if the business does well, the area does well. So far, this ideology has paid off. Design Quarter is known for its trend-setting retail and commercial tenants, so it is only fitting that The Rock Diner does the same. The design is edgy, eloquent, over the top, and fitting for any hotel restaurant in Dubai.

The Food

Let's (happily) fall face first into the food, shall we? With most dishes made to boast rich, smokey flavours (a top food trend to watch out for in 2018  – Shawn called it!), the kitchen has its pulse on the international culinary world. Dishes include grilled pizzas, pastas, steaks and chicken skewered on swords. The restaurant also encourages sharing, where diners order a couple of plates for the table. The menu also features a range of traditional main dishes. For single diners, there is the option of dining at the bar upstairs... but more about that later.

The Rock Diner

Décor & Design

At the top of the interior design and layout game, renowned Greek designer Alexandra Nicolou took it upon himself to turn The Rock Diner into a fashion-forward wonderland. The main restaurant seats up to 60 and is a moody mix of parquet wood floor, dark green marble, heavy wood panels, exposed brickwork, high-gloss black ceilings and high window frames. The outside courtyard has been given a facelift with a 3.5m olive tree, an ample amount of outdoor seating, custom-made tables and chairs and as a rustic gelato and pizza corner.

The Rock Diner

Two private dining areas include a wine room in which the vintages are the hero, and The Living Room with a live garden wall. The menu is an adventure in Greek, Japanese, Italian and American influences, which foodie Miles Kubheka was here to explore. The staircase is the backbone of this design, and it is impossible to resist seeing where it leads. The Carnelian Tapas Bar has a level of style and detail you would expect from a Hollywood set designer – which is thanks to Tarryn Fisher.

The Carnelian Tapas Bar
The answer to a tapas lover's sweatiest dream can be found on the second floor of The Rock Diner. Carnelian serves small shareable plates that have been cooked and constructed so well that it'd make the most popular Instagrammers blush.

The Rock Diner

Stand out dishes include the pork belly served with in-house made kimchi that has a decent amount of bite, duck confit served with beets, and arancini stuffed with mozzarella. The bar also serves Prosecco on tap, has a great variety of whiskies and a walk-in cellar stocked to the brim with both vintage and popular wines.

The Rock Diner

The bartenders are all friendly and well trained in the art of mixing up a good drink. From old-fashioned whisky bases to gin and tonics fit for royalty, there is something for everyone. We highly recommend the Captain Jack Sparrow: spiced rum and bourbon mixed with lemon juice, pepper syrup and Campari.

What drew you to the design industry initially? Is it something you always wanted to be involved in?

Design has innately always been something I've wanted to do and my passion for it just keeps on growing with every project. I have always had a passion for experiential spaces, and being involved in hospitality design allows me to play with that concept on a daily basis.

Who/what do you take inspiration from?

I am inspired by travel, locally and internationally. There are so many people out there doing great things, there is constant inspiration, from dining out in Paris to popping into your local Nando's.

Winning an SA Style Award, that’s prestigious stuff! What did it mean to you?

As a designer it’s amazing to be recognised for the work you put out there, so it’s been great to get this affirmation and, more than anything, the award is something I’m inspired to live up to.

And what does style mean to you in general?

Style in our time is so open to interpretation that we have much more freedom to express ourselves than before. Style has evolved past just echoing trends and has become an individualistic expression of one's aspirations and culture.

What would you say your signature style is?

In design, I aim to create spaces that are inspiring, detailed and tailor-made for the purposes of the space. Perhaps sometimes bordering on a maximalist design approach, my intention is to create immersive hospitality experiences. In terms of fashion, I don't take it too seriously. I look for quality, something unique and most importantly if it's black!

What space are you most proud of and why?

MESH Club is definitely a firm favourite of mine. We were able to work with amazing artists, craftsmen and clients who were all completely on board with pushing the boundaries of design.

Career highlight so far?

Being a finalist in the International Restaurant & Bar Design Awards two years in a row and winning best bar design in London last year. [Tristan won the Best Restaurant & Bar Design Award for the Middle East and Africa category in 2016 for his design of News Café Rosebank].

And career lowlight?

An accident on site that left me out of action for two months in 2016.
