Herbi Vohr has long been a staple in the vegan community for mouthwatering mock meats. You can order some of their products by emailing your orders, delivery address and contact number to [email protected]. Based out in Pretoria, Asher's Farm Sanctuary is a vegan animal welfare organisation offering a loving home to previously abused and neglected farm animals. The sanctuary also has an on-site vegan eatery and shop. As a way to raise funds during lockdown, they started offering deliveries on vegan brands, including Herbi Vohr, Violife, The Vegan Butcherie and De Crocky Kombutcha. Simply contact them to place your order for delivery.
Not to be confused with Herbi Vohr, Herbivore Earthfoods is a relative newbie on the vegan scene. They offer a range of vegan snacks and treats for delivery. Some of our favourite products on offer are the nut mylks, the mushroom biltong and the Lemon Cashew Cheesecake. Unfortunately, Joburgers will have to wait until after lockdown to receive deliveries due to travel restrictions, but these yummy delights are certainly worth the wait.
Some of our favourite vegan products come from our local grocery stores. Luckily for us, a few of the most popular stores are now delivering. Here are a few stores delivering vegan food products:
Woolworths: The new Woolies plant-based range has certainly become a staple in our kitchens. If you love their vegan nuggets, stir-fry strips and sliced cold cuts as much as we do, have them delivered to your door for just R50. Find out more here.
Pick n Pay: Thanks to the new Pick n Pay Livewell range, we are now spoiled for choice when it comes to vegan products. Order yourself some tofu, dairy-free milk and other yummy treats for delivery. Find out more here.
Jackson's Real Food Market: Jackson's is a go-to for many vegan Joburg shoppers. Here, vegans can get their fill of dairy-free milk, mock meats and other vegan delights. During lockdown, you can order all your Jackson's favourites and have them delivered via 1Fetch. Find out more here.

Our readers are well aware of how much we love Vegeata, as we can not stop going on about this food stall. You only need taste one of the many menu items to understand why. Some of these menu items include a fried tofu bao bun, pulled jackfruit nachos and delectable fried mushrooms. Our current favourite is the Fried Chick'n and Bacun Burger. This features a fresh bun topped with crispy bacun, creamy ranch, lettuce, tomato and the juiciest piece of fried chick'n. You can find Vegeata at various markets. But if that isn't enough (and it really isn't) then you can find their delicious cupcakes and sandwiches at Jackson's Real Food Market or get their ginormous doughnuts at The Fussy Vegan.
This food stall makes some amazingly tasty Indian food. All of their food is vegetarian, but they do pop up at the popular vegan markets. They specialise in chaat (short for chatpatta), meaning "lip-smacking". This is a sentiment that could not be more true, as the flavours in their pani puri, sev puri and bhel puri are truly lip smacking. This food truck is available at various events and markets, so keep an eye on their Facebook page to find them.
We love wraps, in all shapes, colours and sizes. And The Wrap Shack is certainly giving us a rainbow of wraps. They have white, yellow, green, orange and pink wraps. They fill these colourful blankets with a variety of delicious and healthy options such as falafels, rainbow salads, salsa and avo. This is definitely the cuisine of choice for those wanting to have healthy and tasty food. Check out their Facebook page to stay up to date with the events and markets where you'll be able to find them.
This food stall provides allergy free wraps and pancakes. Not only do they make yummy wraps, stews, curries, rusks and other baked goods. But they also make a truly epic chai tea and vegan hot chocolate. You can also grab a slice or two of their impeccable cakes and tarts. But our favourite has got to be the Patty Stack; a sweet potato rosti topped with smoked chilli mayo, lettuce, a lentil patty, baby marrow patty, olive tapenade and micro greens. Check out their Facebook page to see their upcoming events.
Leafy Greens Cafe is a buffet-style eatery in the picturesque Muldersdrift. They offer healthy vegan fare that leaves us wanting more. They often have food stalls at our favourite vegan markets. Some of their best options available include the Beyond Burger, featuring the ever-popular Beyond Meat Burger patty. But we are suckers for all their decadent baked treats such as the rich chocolate cake and the creamy cheesecake. Not only do they sell their vegan fare at markets and their restaurant, but they also offer cooking classes. Check out their Facebook page for more.
That's right! Our favourite seitan biltong producer is now also a food stall. Herbi Vohr has recently started using their own produce to make mouth-watering meals for their patrons. The items on their menu includes a vegan breakfast and some refreshing sandwiches made from their deli cuts. Vegan markets will now have not one, but two Herbi Vohr stalls, one for the freshly made meals and another where you can purchase their seitan meats such as their famous biltong. Have a look at their Facebook page to see any upcoming events, fantastic recipes and retailers.
Kaylee's is a vegan eatery that popped up at the Comic Warehouse. And vegans from Bedfordview and surrounds have been flocking there ever since. Kaylee serves up yummy, healthy, nutritious and fresh food that is good for you and the environment. We love their Caesar Bowl, filled with rocket, bacon, avocado, cashew Parmesan, croutons and Caesar dressing. But if you're looking for something a little more hearty, try the Korean BBQ featuring BBQ short rib, marinated cucumber, avocado and micro herbs. One of the best things about this eatery is that you can choose between almond, coconut and soya milk.
This eatery has quickly become one of our favourites, with their delicious fare and freshly baked goods. We love all the vegan options from curries and tofu scrambles to pastas and pizzas. Their menu has a diverse range, offering fare to every vegan palate. This has become a top notch restaurant for dinners of mixed eating habits. Our favourite is the Rainbow Bowl, with a trio of quinoa, buckwheat and pearled couscous, roasted beetroot and tomatoes, chimichurri tofu, avocado, nigella seeds, green hummus and tahini.
Hudson's has long been the burger joint for many Bedfordview residence. But they have recently updated their menu to include vegan options. It is also the joint to get a tasty taco, perfect pizza and blissful burgers. They have even included a marvelous milkshake. It is almost impossible to choose one of their five glorious sounding burgers, so we'll just have to keep going back until we've tried them all. But that's ok, because then we get loads of their vegan Panko Crumberd Wings appetiser with garlic mayo, siracha, vacon bits and spring onions. All of this topped off with a creamy and decadent Oreo milkshake.
This massive retailer has recently launched a new range of plant-based food. Woolworths at Bedford Centre is one of the few branches of this retailer in the east that has a huge variety of the new vegan range. Here, you can get vegan milk, salami, ham, schnitzels, sausages and chocolate among the many other options. The vegan world has been a buzz over Woolworths' vegan biltong for a while now, with many people having trouble finding it. But this branch retails this too, in two flavours. The vegan biltong consists of spiced and dried mushrooms, resulting in a slightly bitter version of the real thing. This treat can be found in the pay queue isle.
This health store has several branches across Joburg, including one in Bedfordview. This branch is just down the road from the Doppio Zero and is about five minutes away from the Woolworths at Bedford Square. They sell a range of vegan food but they also stock a variety of vegan and cruelty-free toiletries. Unfortunately, this branch of Wellness Warehouse does not have a Wellness Café, but it is still the go-to for hard-to-find vegan food and beauty products.
Herbi Vohr is one of the more popular brands among vegans. This is because they produce delicious alternatives to meat such as biltong, ribs, bacon, chicken, steaks and sandwich slices. However, it has always been a mission to get our hands on it for those of us residing in the east. We would have to flock to the northern suburbs when the craving hits for their ample supply. Step in Spar at Bedford Village. Like some of the other Spar branches in Randburg, this Spar is now a stockist of all things Herbi Vohr, except the biltong. Spar has also always been a great store for browsing and finding oddities, so look around and you may find a few keepers.
