Eating plans require a lot of discipline - it's all about making the right decisions and finding the right balance to ensure your body gets all the nutrients it needs.

The benefits of starting an eating plan:

Tricks For Your Lockdown Eating Plan

Eat Food That Is Packed With Vitamins and Minerals

Your body needs as much vitamins and minerals as it can get. Vitamins and minerals help your body function correctly and boost your immune system.

Eat A Lot Of Fruit And Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables provide vitamins and minerals that give the body the nourishment it needs. They are also high in fibre, aiding digestion.

Keep Your Meals Simple

Simplicity is the best way to limit over using ingredients and the fewer ingredients in a meal, the easier it will be to control your calorie intake.

Get Rid Of Bad Snacks

Substitute bad snacks with a few healthier alternatives. There are many healthy options for you to choose from. A few good examples are nuts, avocado, lightly salted popcorn and smoothies, just to name a few.

Slow Down On The Extras

It's great that we have time to explore and have fun cooking our favourite food, but sometimes we add too much extra indulgences to our meals, like adding an extra handful of cheese to your pasta, drizzling on extra sauce or going for an extra spoon of sugar. Leaving out all the extras is a quick and easy way to stick to your meal plan and avoid extra calories.

Don't Overindulge

When you are at home and bored, overindulging is very easy. Don't fall victim to this. Stick to your meal plan and have a snack if you're feeling hungry.

Stay Hydrated

Often, we feel hungry when we are just dehydrated, so staying hydrated is vitally important. If you're feeling hungry, drink a glass of water. Wait a while, and eat a healthy snack if you're still hungry.

Often our taste buds aren't aligned with our healthy eating intentions. We kid ourselves that nutritious equals bland and boring, which is exactly why Lexi's Healthy Eatery has been booming since they day they opened their doors in June 2018. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, banting, paleo or just trying to make small healthier choices everyday, this little eatery has you covered.

Lexi's Eatery is the brainchild of Lexi Monzeglio, a trained plant-based chef and health fanatic. Her creativity is evident when looking at the menu. For breakfast we recommend the sunshine glow bowl (seasonal citrus fruit with coconut cream, biscuit crumb and granola topped with caramel) or the farmer's breakfast bowl (tofu scramble, grilled mushrooms, roasted potatoes, grilled cherry tomatoes and fresh avocado with a vegan hollandaise). Moving over to mains, dig into a slow-roasted cauliflower steak (served with chimichurri, lentils, and fresh mixed greens and beetroot). And the bus doesn't stop there. Other fascinating items include the warrior burger, the smashed falafel and the black rice porcini risotto.

At the time of writing, Lexi's Healthy Eatery has a BYOB (bring your own booze) policy until they've sorted out their liquor licence. But who needs alcohol when there's red velvet and golden "mylk" lattes, vegan superfood Horlicks and an array of juices and smoothies to choose from? On top of that Lexi's has taken a stand against plastic and introduced stainless steel straws and bio-degradable packaging to their restaurant.

All in all, Lexi's Healthy Eatery is a rocking place to get your plant-based diet on without skimping on good taste. Meat eaters shouldn't feel left out, however: while the menu makes little use of meat products, there is a bit of fish here and a burger there. Do yourself a favour and go check 'em out – you won't be sorry!

Set A Budget

As always, your budget will determine what you can have for lunch. An upside to planning your meals and making them at home is that you save a lot of money. As much as we love takeaways, neither our budgets nor bellies would be able to keep up with having fried chicken and chips five times a week.

How Many Meals?

Are you just aiming for lunch at work or would you like to expand it to breakfast and dinner? With good planning comes great meals. Invest in freezer-grade plastic lunch boxes, cook all your meals over the weekend and stash them in the freezer until the night before you plan on eating them.

Dedicating Days

Variety is the spice of life, right? That goes for weekly meals as well. No matter how much you love prawn cocktails, having them every day for six weeks in a row is not a good idea. After that, you won't eat shellfish again! Dedicate certain days of the week to a certain meal, like meat-free Monday or Taco Tuesday. They don't have to sound flashy but you get the picture.

What's In Season?

The price and availability of certain types of fruit and vegetables are directly linked to the seasons. If you're not too sure which fruit and veg are available in the current season as always, we have your back. Check out our awesome Fruit & Veg Seasonal Chart here.

Rice It Up

A great trick – if you're not banting – is to cook a big fat pot of rice (we recommend brown, always) and then plan around that. It saves a lot of time, money and effort. Rice is also very versatile, goes with any meat or veg and fills you up nicely.
