Time to switch things up and explore the salad world. Let's eat!
When we came across this marvelous innovation, all we could think of was the nostalgic effect of the Cookie Monster's signature "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me". Spoon It! is exactly what you need to feed your cookie dough craving.
This colourful and literally tasteful place was inspired by childhood memories. We all know that wistful moment when you get to the kitchen to find mom or grandma floured up and ready to bake.
The warmth and aroma of fresh baked treats, but most of all when mom gives the go ahead to lick the spoon full of cookie dough and maybe the bowl, too. This is one of those childhood memories that makes you smile. Well! In this case, cookie dough.
Elize, the owner of Spoon It! was also inspired during her travels in Berlin, she came across a shop that sold edible cookie dough. She indulged a little and thought that Joburg needed something to sweeten their memory with nostalgia. That is when the deliciousness began, she found herself making it and here we are today.
She says, "the smiles on my clients faces when they taste it for the first time is my favourite moment". Through this, the passion for what she does shines through.
You will probably notice that Spoon It! is not from Johannesburg; however, we could not keep the yummy away from you when we found out that they deliver nationwide. So here we are, writing about one of the most delicious, drool worthy eats.
As soon as you take a look at what they have to offer, you will be intrigued. Not only do they offer cookie dough, but they also have 'gourmet' cookie dough - how about that? Prepare yourself to be overwhelmed by the generous variety to choose from. You will probably want every single one of their mouthwatering delights.
Our mouths water just by the thought of it.
What does Spoon It! offer? Delicious cookie dough flavours which include their signature treats and gourmet flavours.
They also have awesome mixed flavoured party packs and hampers (of course, these party packs can be for one) so you get to order more.
So, if you have been looking to explore yummy eats or have been searching for the best cookie dough, Spoon It! is the place you have been waiting for. What more can we say?
Try it and you will love it!

This potato restaurant offers diners the chance to experience the luxury and deliciousness of this solanaceous vegetable. Their menu consists of nothing but loaded chips, saucy chips and dessert chips. Menu items include taters topped with items such as Parmesan with black truffle mayo, pulled chicken and sesame slaw and even a cheeseburger with no bun, just chips. Those braver than us may try the sweet chips, topped with vanilla ice cream, peanut-caramel sauce and toasted coconut flakes. It's about time Joburg had an eatery devoted to the humble potato, if you ask us.
This eatery, based in Mushroom Park, offers a wide selection of bistro food, many of which centre around the earthy truffle. Diners can expect delectable meals ranging from bar food to signature mains. The Grilled Octopus, Burnt Corn & Avocado Salad, Braised Lamb Shoulder and Truffles Signature Burger are all fine choices. However, the Truffle Parmesan Fries remains one of the most raved about menu items. These twice-fried chips are served with nutty Parmesan and creamy black truffle aioli.
Located in Parkhurst, this burger joint makes some of the most sought after burgers in Joburg. And we can see why. With over 20 burgers, including vegan options, to choose from, this is a burger haven. As fabulous as the burgers are, we can't resist their chips. The Loaded Fries comes covered in bacon bits, sweet chilli and mozzarella. They also offer up creamy peri peri and mozzarella Disco Fries and Truffle Cheese Fries. Low Carbers and Banters also have their pick with the Avo Fries served with tangy sweet chilli sauce.
This bar in Benoni offers diners yummy pub grub, with everything from Deep Fried Ravioli and Brannas Basted Chicken Wings to a Peanut Butter Burger and Pulled Pork. Our favourite pub grub, especially while enjoying a few jam jars, are loaded chips. This bar caters to this with their Fully Loaded Chips. These are topped with cheddar and mozzarella. Dinners can then choose to top this with spring onion, bacon and jalapeno or pulled pork and BBQ.
Brooklyn Brothers has recently popped up at several locations across the city. We have often frequented the Bedford branch to get our fix of great burgers, sticky chicken wings, saucy ribs, fluffly waffles, thick milkshakes and perfectly fried chips. The Brothers have several fries that bridge the gap to gourmet including Macon & Cheese Fries, Blue Cheese Fries, Garlic Parmesan Fries and our favourite, Dirty Fries. These are smothered with Beef Chilli Mince, Cheedar Cheese, Beans and Jalapeno Fries.
No matter how we might feel about the values of this establishment, we can't deny that their food is delicious. This eatery offers patrons American-style cuisine with the burgers, tacos, curly fries, shrimp, philly cheesesteak and chicken wings. Although not suitable for fine dining, this place makes a good location when we have the munchies. But no cravings can be fulfilled without a plate of chips. This is where the Big Dipper Chili Fries comes in. Huge chips are loaded with chilli con carne, cheese and chipotle cream sauce.
One things for sure, there is nothing quite like exploring with different kinds of cuisines and allowing yourself to go on a good food hop. So we decided to share a few places that have amazing food bowls that we're certain you will love.
These spots are very unique to their own taste (pun intended), upon visiting each of them you will realise that they probably all have something different to bring to the table. Then again, food is the one thing we should be open minded about.
So, let's check out these super cool places...
Momo Baohaus' name makes us want to say, "I want that Momo". Don't ask why, but it just makes me want to eat more and more.
This amazing spot really does count as a spot that makes a mean food bowl, not only do you eat with your eyes but the food itself is absolutely mouthwatering and leaves you wanting more. If you are looking for Asian cuisine with a twist or something healthy - without a doubt, you will find it here.
You can find Momo Baohaus nicely cuddled onto Greenway in Greenside.
Tucked in a cute spot is Spilt Milk, to my surprise - when we walked into this place and we fully admit this was based on a sterotypical mindset, we thought we would probably get strictly gourmet food and did not expect to see smoothie bowls on their menu.
They have the most amazing smoothie bowl options we've seen, these yummy generous acts really have you the palm of the hand. One look and its got you, my favourite bowl is The Nutty Professor - my weakness for cashews is undeniable here.
You have to visit this spot.
On the bustling block on Jan Smuts is a cool food bowl spot, Saigon Suzy.
This does not surprise me at all because their food is impeccable. A sentence to describe the bowls here; "Saigon bowls are food for the eyes, heart and explorers". To all the barbecue lovers; this spot is all about Asian barbecue and best believe, it is the absolute best.
The perk about paying them a visit when you want a good time out, they have ample spots in surrounding for a good party.
This one, you will not expect...
We are going to be upfront with you, the Food Lovers in Rosebank is one of the branches we've have seen. They literally have stalls inside the actual store, and they still managed to keep their look and feel.
So, there is a stall - that has a signature touch you won't miss; they have an actual bowl with chopsticks on their logo - cutest thing ever. Theere, you get to build your own bowl with rice, choice of 3 meats, choose 4 sides (this was the hardest for me), 2 sauces and a sprinkle of optional seeds.
This is definitely something you need to try, mouth waters by the though of the bowl.
Now the question is, where do you start? Honey, we don't know but just start eating. It will be worth it!
Fego Caffé is a cosy little café that has several locations in Joburg. All the branches we have been to leave us feeling warm and snug. The little café boasts a hearty feeling of home with "warmth in every cup". Their menu comprises simple, yet delicious, savoury items with a wide variety of cakes and other baked goods like muffins, croissants and even bread and butter pudding - comfort on a plate. Their coffee is simply delicious, whether it's a classic Americano or an over-the top Coconut Mocha Crunch, coconut hot chocolate, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and honeycomb chocolate. The main reason they made it to this list, however, is their yummy Hazelnut Latte, steamed milk, warm espresso, gooey chocolate hazelnut spread with a generous lashing of whipped cream.
Royal Coffee Roasters, previously named Beans About Coffee, is a gem of a coffee shop that just popped up in Edenvale's Stoneridge Shopping Centre one day. And they know their coffee! This charming café is decorated with converted coffee crates and littered with old coffee sacks to create a place that spells c-o-f-f-e-e. Royal Coffee Roasters sells a selection of specially roasted coffee beans from all over the world, as well as every coffee machine ever invented. This includes the Hario Coffee Syphon, which can only be described as a coffee chemistry apparatus. Their food is delicious, their staff friendly, the decor inviting and the coffee irresistible. Their Mocha is, without a doubt, the best we've have ever tasted. It is creamy, warm, chocolately and most importantly — coffeely (is that a word?). Unlike some other drinks, this Mocha tastes like both coffee and chocolate with just enough of each flavour to compliment the other.
Cramers Coffee is an adorable coffee shop in Marshaltown, known for its welcoming ambiance, created by their delicate music selection, quirky decor and smiling staff. Located on a bustling street in Joburg CBD, Cramer's Coffee makes delicious bakes and cakes (the red velvet is definitely a must-try). They have many delicious drinks on their menu, including the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate and sinful Caramel Latte. But the reason we keep coming back is their Gingerbread Latte, deep and rich espresso, frothy seamed milk and a glorious shot of gingerbread syrup. This is the perfect treat for a chilly autumn morning.
This coffee shop is tucked away in Sandton City. But don't let the huge mall and all the people put you off. Once inside, you'll feel right at home. Walnut Grove is perhaps most famous for their lustrous cakes. And while we can't disagree with that, we always find ourselves in their comfy seating for their gourmet coffee. All their coffees are wonderfully rich and gorgeous but we are particularly partial to the Bar-one Cappuccino, a luscious and creamy cappuccino made from their house blend of 100% Arabica beans flavoured with one of Joburg's favourite chocolate bars. What's not to love?
Europa is a café that specializes in delicious Mediterranean fare, from mouth-watering Italian anti-pasti to delectable pastas and everything in between. They have an extensive range of breakfasts, light lunches and amazing desserts (caramel popcorn brownies, anyone?). However, any Italian restaurant should have two things: great coffee and great tiramisu. And Europa has both! They come to you in the form of the most amazing Tiramisu Latte. Just thinking about this is making me drool on my keyboard. Yes, it's that good!
Last, but certainly not least is State 5. This coffee shop in Greenside and Fourways specialises in cold brewed coffee, which gives the coffee a "refreshing, less acidic, more dark chocolatey" taste with the added benefit of even more caffeine in every magnificent cup of coffee. State 5 has a huge variety of flavoured coffee, from a regular Espresso to the unheard of Mouth Flip, featuring their cold brew coffee, vanilla syrup, cream and wait for it... soda water. They also have a few alcoholic options from the tempting Espresso Martini to the 'I have to try that' Bronx Bomber. This is a mixture of their cold brew coffee, gin, absinthe and vodka. Is that even legal? For those of you who don't mix caffeine and booze, the Caramilizer is a must: cold brewed coffee, salted caramel and milk chocolate. This is definitely yum in a glass.

Under the masterful eye of Michel Roux, a young Daniel Galmiche honed his culinary skills. That was during the 70s when Michelin stars were first awarded to restaurants in the UK. Roux's London based eatery was one of the first to receive this accolade - two stars to be exact. Indirectly that was a premonition to Daniel Galmiche's career. Fast forward to 2018 and Chef Galmiche has been holding his own Michelin stars for nearly three decades - four to be exact. Why is this important? Daniel Galmiche is opening a restaurant in Johannesburg - The Gold Room.
The Gold Room is set to be a fusion restaurant located in the QSL private member’s club in Milpark. The QSL members club is described as a tailored home, an exquisitely intimate and textured space for those who are moving the world forward. While the club itself is for members only (with membership fees starting at R10 000 and spiking up to R500 000 per person), the new fine-dining restaurant will be open to the public... thankfully.
Though the menu is still being built, we can expect food fares professionally plated and made with fresh, local ingredients. Our prediction would be that fish will play a poignant role in both entrés and mains as Daniel Galmiche is the ambassador for the Norwegian Sea Food Council (and Galmiche enjoys playing around with line fish fillets, as seen in his London based restaurant, 190 Queen's Gate). Daniel Galmiche will also have to take into consideration that South Africans are big on red meat. According to our friends over at Eat Out, they recon the decorated French chef will put oxtail on the menu - a guess we are wholeheartedly amplifying (seeing as Marble has made red meat and open flame cooking popular in fine dining).
While Chef Daniel Galmiche was in Johannesburg to promote the Gold Room, he spent some time with our favourite restaurateur, James Diack (of Coobs, The National, El Contadino, and la Stalla fame). Chef Galmiche visited Diack's family farm, Brightside in Magaliesberg where Daniel overloaded his Instagram account with interesting images of local produce.
The Gold Room is set to open up shop in September 2018. Until then, we can only sit back, pop a bottle of Chablis and play the guessing game until Daniel Galmiche's manager gets back to us with more details. Take your time, Lime Light - we've got enough white wine to last us a while.

Pork Fillet Strips With HoSin Sauce, Beans And Broccoli
We all love Chinese food. Heck, we all need good Chinese food in our lives at least once a month. What better than sticky pork strips served with beans and broccoli? Don't you even dare pull your nose at broccoli. Those tiny trees take months to grow and they taste amazing. They are one of our favourite veggies. Besides, they are super healthy - and complement this dish tenfold.
Classic Chilli With Apple Salsa
The legend behind the origins of chilli con carne is that during the 1700s cowboys in California would all huddle up next to the fire on cold winter nights and toss all sorts of ingredients into a big pot and hope for the best. The result is something we all love and indulge in each chance we get. This recipe goes well with a bonfire. Just saying.

Tiny smokey scents mixed with the sweet and tangy of the pineapple. Do you notice the cheese oozing out on the sides? Yum!

We all love blue cheese. Sure it's a bit smelly and looks weird but ooh, it goes well with pretty much anything. That is why we've paired it with bacon and roasted baby tomatoes. Yeah, yeah, technically it's not food but, chocolate, again. That's reason enough. Besides, you can warm it up and dunk rusks in it or something. There, we've just turned milkshakes into a meal.

If there is one thing that makes me weak at the knees, it's delicious food — in this case, delicious street food. That is exactly what Sumting Fresh has to offer: a chicken full of heaven.
That is pretty much a rhetorical question for "Sumting Fresh is the king of serving the best fried chicken around". Yep! They also come with a fresh lingo that will have you laughing, feeling good or just blushing to death (Okay, now I'm revealing my secrets. They had me at "Cause I met her in the summaaa, SUMMA!" which means "a pretty lady customer ordering" ).
Sumting Fresh began their journey in 2012, spreading the love around Joburg in their street food truck. If you are a market traveller, you surely know them. Even if you don't, visit any market where they serve their amazing food and you will know them. They are probably the loudest and most welcoming people to feed you. It's great! Nothing is better than being fed and receiving golden service. Trust me — I know.
They say that their chants play a very huge part of their food. This is what grabs the customers' attention and keeps them entertained while they wait for their order. Not only is it motivation for the customer, but also for the Sumting Fresh family during the long hours that they have to work.
This, by all means, is very literal. Nothing to do with money, fam. Ever imagine something you are craving, and have that instant mouthwater? Well! I am certain you will have more of those moments before, during and after having their tasty food.
My personal favourite has to be the "Italian Stallion". This includes a generous portion of their signature chicken on a bed of salad dressed with their addictive home-made aïoli and sweet chilli sauce and hugged by a fresh bun. May I add that this is served with shoestring fries and a slice of watermelon to cleanse the palate. Other comforting dishes include their famous Goujon Chicken and, for an awesome Asian touch, their steamed bread caressed with chicken, a bed of salad and sauce.
As a foodie myself, one thing that always gives me joy is the homemade touch of love. They make their own sauces and I have to say, they taste amazing! The chilli sauce is like a better version of sriracha sauce.
Where to find this mysteriously delicious, succulent chicken addiction? Sumting Fresh is situated in Norwood on 79 Grant Avenue. Otherwise, you can find them at the Neighbourgoods Market on Saturdays and The Fourways Farmers' Market on Sundays. Otherwise, follow their pages to see which events they are attending. They made my DSTV Delicious Festival a very yummy one.
I clearly love you guys, because writing this was difficult. I'm drooling like a bull dog, so that's it from me. Signing out!
