It's the time of year when our credit cards are scuffed and bruised from abuse. Here is our list of Joburg’s best clothing factory shops and outlet stores so you can still enjoy a bit of shopping.

Big L's

Big L’s Levi’s Factory outlet located at the Woodmead Retail Park is a favourite among students, or anyone looking to up their street cred with a good pair of denim. The store mainly stocks classically tapered, skinny, straight and slim-cut jeans, however, you can find bootleg jeans too on occasion. There are also limited bits and pieces from bigger collections like the twisted fit, commuter and curve jeans. Also in stock are shirts, the odd accessory and shoes – but in very limited numbers.

Now for the big question – how much do they cost? You can get a pair of jeans for roughly R500 and a shirt for around R250, bearing in mind that it really depends on what the item is. Commuter jeans will never cost you R400.

Address: Woodmead Value Mart, Corner Waterval Crescent and Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, Johannesburg.

Coricraft is one of South Africa’s favourite furniture stores and for good reason – their furniture is simple yet stunning, inspiring visitors to drop some cash at almost every visit. The real problem, however, is that we can’t all afford to fully kit out our houses in Coricraft's fine furniture as much as we might like to. The answer? Coricraft has a factory shop in Wynberg and it goes without saying that you can get great end-of-range furniture here without breaking the bank. Tip: Like most factory shops, these are limited, end-of-range products, so it’s probably advisable to visit every few weeks.

Address: Unit A, Game Complex, corner Arkwright Avenue and 4th Street, Wynberg, Johannesburg.

Big Blue Clearance Store

Ever seen someone wearing a really clever shirt with a truly South African phrase on it and wondered where it was from? That would be Big BlueTrust us, if you’ve never popped into one of their stores, you should! Their summer gear is original and well-fitting, but let’s face it, anything that cool can’t be cheap and you’d be right to assume it. That’s where the Big Blue Factory Shop in Linden comes in. They stock all the same awesome apparel at a fraction of the price. Buy a few shirts at the beginning of summer and you’ve got your tees covered for the rest of the season.

Address: 57 Third Avenue, Linden, Johannesburg.

This time of year is when our credit cards are scuffed and bruised from abuse. Here is our list of Joburg’s best clothing factory shops and outlet stores.

Geldof Chocolatiers

Attention all chocoholics: Geldof Chocolatiers is the perfect spot for you to get your chocolate fix. They make everything from Easter eggs to chocolate Santas and truffles. Luckily, they have a factory outlet in Randburg, which stocks all their delicious products at wholesale prices. We once bought a whole packet of truffles for only R30 – if that doesn't sound like a sweet deal, we don't know what does! Tip: Ring the doorbell a few times before giving up – they are often busy in the back making chocolate like a team of Oompa Loompas.

Address: Unit C1 Mikro Industrial Park, 17 Hammer Avenue; Strijdom Park, Randburg, Johannesburg.

SMEG Outlet Store

Love SMEG but don't have the budget for it? Then you'll be happy to hear that you can get your hands on a few of their appliances at discounted prices at the SMEG Outlet Store in Sandton. Styling the kitchen while not spending a fortune is music to our ears! Forever New

We are forever in love with Forever New and for good reason! Their clothing, shoes and accessories are nothing short of a classy affair that we all want to be a part of. Whether you're in the mood for spoils, retail therapy or gift shopping for a bestie, this store has had girls in Joburg going crazy since their release. However, their items often have a really fancy price tag which is why you need to make a stop at their factory store in Woodmead.

Hello Pretty is a unique online market offering original and authentic products from over 1 800 individual designers. Here artists, craftspeople and designers can share their work and sell their goods to potential buyers from across the country. In this way, Hello Pretty benefits small local businesses. To date, the initiative has fed over R8-million into the South African economy through its website. In these tough economic times, this is no small change. You can help grow this amount by purchasing your winter essentials from any one of Hello Pretty's traders.

Because e-commerce is permitted under level 3 lockdown, Hello Pretty is back up and running, full steam ahead. To ensure that your order is delivered in a timely manner and in perfect condition, you will be put in contact with the seller directly. So as the cold weather rolls in, take a peek at Hello Pretty's online offerings. They have everything from clothing, to home decor, jewellery and kids toys. Here are our top picks from their current collections:

Now, we all know just how unpredictable Joburg winter weather can be. While it may feel below freezing before the sun rises, by midday we are rolling up our sleeves to catch a breeze. The solution - layer up! Hello Pretty is your one-stop shop for great T-shirts this winter. Their traders sell everything from graphic tees to hand-knitted tops and shawls. Our favourite is this pretty floral tee with peek-a-boo back from Dandelion Fashion. It's the perfect slash of colour for those dreary winter days. Get it now before it's sold out!

Jewellery & Accessories

Father's Day is just around the corner. Get ahead of the game by checking out Hello Pretty's range of men's accessories. Dad's are easy enough to shop for, right? All they really want is to be left in peace on their special day anyway. Get your dad something that says 'I love you, Dad', without being overstated, like this Wrap Around Watch from Bamboo Revolution. Or, gift him with a leather belt sold by Wanderer Handcrafted Leather. This is the kind of gift that will last him a good long while, so it's worth the investment.

Home & Decor

Does your home decor need sprucing up? Give your living space an update before winter hits. It could be just what you need to beat the winter blues. Thankfully, many of Hello Pretty's skilled marketers specialise in furniture, decor and even fine art. We simply adore this dark oak coffee table by Kurve Designs. With its industrial powder coated steel frame and unique rectangular shape, this table is ideal for a trendy Joburg loft apartment space. You can custom order your table from Kurve Designs to suit the dimensions of your living space, too.

Food & Drink

Winter is the season for warming teas, rich coffees and sweet treats. Hello Pretty's sellers have just what you need to help you get through the cold. Tea lovers, check out the Lady of the Herbs range of calming teas. They offer a tea to wake you up, a tea to put you into a restful sleep and a tea to soothe aches and pains. Sounds like a comprehensive winter survival kit, if you ask us.

How did you cope without alcohol for those two months in lockdown? Celebrate your new found freedom with a few custom tipples from Hello Pretty's drinks store. Whether you're a gin gal, wine connoisseur or whisky sipper, there should be something to help you get the party started here. We would personally go for the Unibox Gin Box - which comes complete with an unbreakable stemless wine/gin glass, tonic syrups and a bottle of premium gin. Bottoms up!

The up-cycle movement has been on the rise for a couple of years now. With eco-warriors at the helm, furniture is no longer being discarded without a second thought. Similar to re-cycling, the up-cycling movement promotes re-use of non-perishable or slow degrading items. The difference here though is, instead of breaking down materials to re-cycle them, the old is given a little spit and polish to make it seem brand new.

This movement is especially relevant to furniture and upholstery. The manufacturing process behind that brand new reading chair you have been eyeing can have disastrous effects on the environment. So, instead of buying new, we work with what we have to create something updated and modern. Using only minimal materials, up-cyclers can re-work a dusty, old piece of furniture into a contemporary living space must-have.

Up-Cycled Furniture

Up-Cycled Furniture

As trends come and go, you may find up-cycling your much-needed answer to millennial pastels, prints, gold finishes and all other interior design gimmicks. That's where Up-Cycled Furniture comes into the picture, specialising in couches, dining room chairs, occasional chairs, benches, custom-made furniture and more. They will re-upholster your favourite lounger back to its original glory. Or, you can give your entire living room collection a complete makeover without having to blow your budget.

Rather than waste your time DIYing your household items to their former look and comfort, send them off to Up-Cycled for the royal treatment. If you are unsure of the look you want, they will choose the fabric and style for you. So, the next time you find a super cool armchair at that vintage store in town, don't pass it by. Up-Cycled will not only give it some much-needed TLC, but they can make it uniquely yours, reflecting your tastes and comforts.

How it works

Up-Cycled collects your run down and tired furniture at the most convenient time in your schedule. They then haul them off to their factory workshop, where all the magic happens. Up-Cycled has years of experience in traditional and modern upholstery. They also have a vast amount of understanding of furniture function, restoration and traditional re-upholstery techniques. So, whether you are looking for timeless traditional or clean contemporary design, they will be able to transform your drab couch or chair into something worthy of a magazine cover. Your furniture is then re-delivered to your home, ready to brighten up your living space.

Up-Cycled Furniture also creates their own custom pieces. Their pallet patio sets are particularly impressive, as they re-work, paint and transform old wooden pallets into outdoor furniture to last you a good couple of years. Complete with glass tops and lockable wheels, their tables and garden couches are the perfect addition to your braai or pool area. So, what are you waiting for? Treat yourself to some fancy 'new' furniture.

Check out this awesome custom made pallet patio set! You can Choose your configuration and colours! Call or email us for an obligation free quote on 082 641 8838 or
