We all have an inner Cookie Monster. And, try as we may, sometimes it’s impossible to deny the part of us which demands those sweet, crumbly treats. Whether you like to dunk them in your tea, nibble on them while working or just scoff them down when no one is looking, Joburg has some great bakeries and restaurants where you can get your cookie fix.

Wild Ones Grazing Tables

Wild Ones Grazing Tables is a catering company with a difference. Owner Ami Heystek creates luxurious organic fruit, nut and cheese platters perfect for parties, small weddings and corporate functions. De Bakery

De Bakery is the home of pastry in Edenvale. This quaint Dutch bakery sells the most delicious Speculaas cookies - a sweet and spicy biscuit usually enjoyed over Christmas time in the Netherlands. But, there is no need to wait for jolly old St Nick to come around, because De Bakery offers these treats all year long. Don’t blame us if you find yourself addicted to these five spiced cookies, or any other of De Bakery’s cakes, sweet breads or pastries.

Sugarbear is a custom bakery located in Senderwood. While their specialties lie in wedding and birthday cakes, their biscuits are just too sweet (both in taste and appearance) to ignore. Perfectly piped royal icing tops Sugarbear’s biscuit creations, which are made daily from freshly baked cookie dough. Order yourself a dozen personalised Sugarbear cookies for your next party or friendly get together. They can be as intricate or simple as you like. Alternatively, join in on the bakery’s next biscuit decorating class. What better way to celebrate your love of cookies than by becoming a master baker?

Crumbs and Cream

When a simple butter biscuit just won’t fill that gaping hole in your tummy, Crumbs and Cream come to the rescue. What started out as a single tiny ice cream truck at the V&A Waterfront Watershed Market in Cape Town, has now turned into a booming ice cream sandwich deli located at Illovo Junction in Rosebank. The journey to satisfaction is simple - just pick your cookie, pick your ice cream and, lastly, pick a bunch of tasty toppings to round it all off. This type of biscuity indulgence would make the Cookie Monster proud.

A Little Something

A Little Something can turn your birthday party, kitchen tea or even wedding reception into a cookie feast with their handmade biscuits. Does your child have a favourite cartoon or movie character? Let A Little Something whip up a batch of their special biscuits, hand-rolled and piped to feature your little one's most loved characters. From Alice in Wonderland, to Harry Potter and even Paddington Bear, these whimsical cookies look too good to eat (almost). Brides-to-be, send your reception guests off with a sweet treat - heart shaped biscuits decorated with you and your partner’s monogram. They may be devoured on the ride home, but it’s the thought that counts.

Lovesome Cupcakes and Biscuits

Nothing beats an old school biscuit that tastes just the way Granny used to make them. Lovesome Cupcakes and Biscuits are experts in home-style baking with a boutique twist. Their biscuit boxes are to die for - stacked to the brim with all the cookies you grew up eating. Catering to all tastes, Lovesome’s creations range from ‘Plain Jane’ custard creams, crunchies, cinnamon pinwheels, shortbread and ginger chewies, to the ‘Chocolate Lovers Dream Box’ which includes choc caramel slices and Romany Creams. Spoil the family with one of these boxes. We think the Lovesome Sampler would go down a treat, as it features an assortment of their most popular bikkies.

Fournos Bakery is a cookie lover's heaven. Imagine rows and rows of fresh out-the-oven biscuits. Some dipped in chocolate, others sprinkled with chopped almonds and some just good old butter cookies. But, our favourite Fournos biscuit, by far, has to be the pig’s ear pastry - also known as a French palmier. These puff pastry delights are coated with a fine dusting of sugar and cinnamon. The perfect little treat to accompany a Fournos frothy cappuccino.

Pâtisserie de Paris

Prefer your cookies with a little bit of French flair? We can’t blame you. The macaron was invented by the Italians, but the French claim to have perfected it. Why not test out this claim at Patisserie de Paris in Blairgowrie? They have over 16 different sweet flavoured macarons to choose from, as well as a few savoury options. Put on your beret and a fake French accent and sink your teeth into these little meringue masterpieces.
