Waxing your brows can seem like an incredibly daunting task. What if you take too much off, what if it hurts, what if...? But, there are a number of benefits to waxing those curly caterpillars. For one, the hair grows back at a slower rate and doesn't become bristly or dark. Secondly, you can easily shape your brows with wax. But, you must be careful to avoid ripping them right off. Waxing may also be painful, but it's over in an instant if you do it correctly.
If you don't trust yourself to get it right, then visit Naked Cherry. With branches in Fourways, Sandton, Bassonia, Parkhurst, Randpark Ridge, Bryanston and Woodmead, Naked Cherry is super accessible. These wax specialists are also well adept at dealing with sensitive areas of the body, including the brows. Their brow treatment costs only *R90 for both ladies and men, using low temperature aromatherapy-based hot wax. This wax is guaranteed not to pull at your skin, clinging only to those fuzzy stragglers. Book your appointment here.

Tweezing is one of the most popular methods of taming those brows. We all have a pair of handy tweezers somewhere in our bathrooms, so get yours out and start plucking away. The trick to tweezing without causing yourself excessive pain is to go straight for the root of the hair. This way, you also slow down re-growth. Shaping your brows is also relatively simple. Thick brows are envied world over, so keep them full, but maintained. Follow the ridge of your brow bone to get a simple, clean shape.
You don't want to over pluck because this can lead to serious trouble, so rather aim to snatch up any outlying hairs and leave the rest to carry on as they are. However, if you would rather have a professional do it for you, then there is no better place to visit than Just Browzing. Recognising that your brows are probably one of the most important features of your face, Just Browzing will help you create the ideal shaped eyebrows to get that lifted look. They are very gentle and caring, so book an appointment ASAP.

Finally, we have threading, both an ancient technique and one of the newly embraced methods of removing facial hair in South Africa. If you have never had your brows threaded before, expect a little pain but great rewards. Many liken the pain to having multiple hairs tweezed at once, but it's all together not that bad. Basically all it is, is a little pulling of the skin in opposite directions to allow for the thread to cut through the hair. This takes a lot of skill and practice, so rather find a reputable therapist to thread your brows than go DIY.
Sorbet offers brow threading and tinting at their various salons across Joburg. These trained beauty experts will have you looking fabulous in no time, so treat yourself to a little pampering next pay day.

A Few Tips:
You can definitely trust your brows with the Brow Studio in Melrose Arch, as they specialise in all things brows, be it tinting, tweezing, shaping, and of course, microblading! They are the professionals and know exactly what they're doing, so you're in good hands. What's reassuring is that they have even answered a whole bunch of questions you might have about the procedure on their site so you know what to expect before the appointment. Now for the details - the initial session will cost R2 200*, the procedure will take about 90-minutes, and yes, you'll need to do touch ups to maintain your beautifully microbladed brows (between R1 100* and R1 300*). Bookings are essential, and you need to book well in advance! I know from experience, they're usually fully booked for this procedure.
Th wonderful thing about microblading is the fact that you can correct, enhance or complete reconstruct your eyebrows to what you want! Another spot to check out if you have been keen to do your brows is The Browtique in Fourways. Giving you gorgeous brows and lashes is their forte. And if you're feeling a little nervous before your appointment, it's alright, they have a page offering all the information you could ever want about the process. The 6D Microblading initial procedure will cost R1 800* and will take roughly two hours. Book your spots ASAP.
The name does make one thing that their sole focus is on providing their clients with enviable lashes, when actually, they also offer an amazing brow service and a variety of other treatments. As for the microblading, this is what you need to know: It'll cost R1 600* for the initial session, it will take about two hours, the first touch up after four to six weeks of healing will cost R700* and the touch ups after one year will be R1 200*. To find out what to do prior, during and after the procedure, click here for all the information. It has everything from what to experct, what to avoid, aftercare, the healing process and what pre-existing conditions might interfere with the treatment.
It's engineering, only for your brows... BrowGinering. Get it? We love it! Now, we know this spot is located in Pretoria, but when you're in search of a professional to sculpt, shape and give you those dream brows you've always wanted, distance doesn't matter! But first, book yourself a consultation (R250*) to discuss your brows and what you're after. Then once you've set the date for your appointment, you'll have your desired procedure done - either the Permanent Eyebrows Hair Strokes (R2 300*) or Shaded (R2 500*).
Imagine having eyebrows so full, thick, shapely and beautifully defined that you didn't need to comb and fill them in with a brow pencil each and every morning. That would be the life! We could save so much time, catch a few extra Zs and maybe even spend those few extra minutes making ourselves a decent cup of coffee. Well, at Sherbet Angel, this dream can become a reality! We cannot give a set price of the microblading procedure at this salon as it is subject to quotation, but we can tell you that touch ups start from R800* and that booking is essential.
There's just something about defined brows that frames the face beautifully. But of course, there's no one set frame for everyone. Each and every person has their own signature shape that most accentuates their features. And if you're looking to find that perfect shape for your face and features, then make sure you book your microblading appointment at Tami Garland Aesthetics. Before they make any enhancements, they'll map out the brows that suit your bone structure and create symmetry using an app, then begin the treatment once you're happy. The initial session will take between two to three hours and will cost R1 960*.
This salon is fairly new, having opened earlier this month. And so far, we've only heard good things. Professional service. Friendly staff. Luxury. What more would you want when treating yourself to an indulgent pamper session? And other than all the relaxing treatments they have to offer, they also do microblading for those looking to put a little more oomph into their brows. The first session for newly bladed brows will cost R2 300* and fills or touch ups start from R900*. And if you have any questions, give them call. They'll be more than happy to assist.
If there is one thing I'm protective of, it's my eyebrows. Not only because I have heard SO many horror stories of ladies over-plucking their brows, brows never growing back or being scalded by extremely hot wax. But also because I'm a survivor of a brow tragedy (not self inflicted though). Too much peroxide and a whole lot of burning equals losing your eyebrows and months of regrowth. I'm lucky they grew back unscathed!
It has been many months (perhaps years, I lost count) since that tragic incident, so I thought it was time to pluck up the courage (excuse the pun) to try again and get my eyebrows shaped and tinted by a NEW and QUALIFIED brow professional. So, when a few of my girl friends recommended I go to The Brow Studio, I thought I'd give them a try. Heck, why not go all out and do an eyebrow tint and shaping AND lash tint! After all, my friends' eyebrows and lashes looked amazing, so they must be profesh!
The studio is small but oh-so-modern and sleek in it's design and decor. Think black decor and furnishings against a light grey backdrop. While waiting for my appointment with my brow specialist angel, Dudu, I took a good look around and sussed out their treatment list. What put me at ease the most was the fact that The Brow Studio specialises in the shaping, correcting, colouring and tattooing of eyebrows. Which means they know exactly what they were doing when it comes to eyebrows. A few treatments that caught my eye were:
Now, for those who don't know, I'm blonde. So blonde, in fact, that my eyebrows and lashes are far too fair to see without any sort of enhancement. Practically invisible. If I didn't tint them or fill them in with makeup, you probably wouldn't know they existed (brow-shadow and mascara are my BFFs).
Here are a few before shots of my nonexistent brows and lashes so you can see the difference once they're tinted. Don't laugh!
Dudu did an amazing job and brought new life to my nonexistent and neglected brows and lashes! She talked me through the process (which I appreciated considering my last brow experience ended in a catastrophe), plucked where necessary, pinpointed my brows' problem areas, tinted every single brow and lash hair (every hair counts, right?) and made me feel as comfortable as possible with some lighthearted chitchat. She even gave me a bit more insight about microblading, which has been on my bucket list for the last year or so. I think that might be my next adventure!
Once I got to see my beautiful "new" eyebrows and lashes, I was surprised and oh-so-happy. It's amazing what a little bit of shaping and tinting can do with the help of a brow angel! I happily walked out of there without a smidgen of makeup on my face. And the cost wasn't too bad either (R370* for an eyebrow shape and tint and lash tint combo). It's needless to say that I'll be visiting Dudu again in the future, when my brows and lashes need some sprucing up. I love the fact that I don't need to waste time fussing over my brows or apply some mascara in the mornings. It's liberating!
Here are the after shots... excuse the tint in the pores (oops!)
