The Rand Show Gets A New Look & Feel For 2020

The Rand Show is one of the most iconic events on the annual entertainment and exhibition calendar in Joburg. And to ensure they continue to deliver even more exciting offerings, they have announced that not only will they be sporting a new look and feel for next year's event, but also a brand new, thrilling experience with something for everyone.

In 2020, we aim to surprise people with a brand-new journey. While we will always celebrate what has made The Rand Show one of the most loved events of the year, added variety will mean each visitor can discover something unique, or of value to them. This positioning also makes the event the ideal platform for exhibitors to showcase and participate, and we are already seeing good uptake from a wide and new range of brands with everything from furniture to perfumes and beauty products, to crafts, services and more. With something for everyone, a day at The Rand Show will be an extraordinary day - creating a great memory,” says Craig Newman, CEO Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Did You Know It’s a Heritage Site?

Yeah, we didn't know this interesting bit of information either! The Turffontein Racecourse, one of Joburg's best hidden gems, is in fact, a confirmed heritage site! This track owes its history to the early days of the thriving Gold Rush in 1886, as well as the popularity of horse racing among a new elite crowd and hopeful settlers who moved to Johannesburg to cash in on the newfound wealth in the area. In July 2016, Turffontein Racecourse was declared a heritage site by the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation. And as for the proof, you can go have a look at the Blue Plaque which is proudly displayed outside the main entrance to the racecourse. How interesting is that?

The Thrill of the Race, Of Course!

Just like any other sport, the thrill, excitement and adrenaline boost of the competition adds to the entire experience that comes along with a day at the races. Other than the entertaining events that the racecourse hosts (which we'll get into shortly), Turffontein Racecourse is also regarded as a major horse race training centre. Many horses use the facilities daily to prepare for their gallop down the stretch. Turffontein Racecourse boasts two tracks and it also has a straight course which hosts some of the biggest sprint races of the year. Some of the major races to look forward to at the Turffontein Racecourse include the annual Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup, Champions Day, as well as the annual Triple Crown Series.

Turffontein Racecourse

It’s Where Lady Luck Waits

Feeling lucky? Then why not see if Lady Luck is on your side by placing a few bets on the race horses in hopes you have the winning filly or stallion. There's nothing more thrilling than placing a bet and scoring a few bucks for winning. Just keep in mind: gambling is addictive, so if you place a bet, do so responsibly! And if you're a newbie on the horse racing scene and have no idea how the betting works, don't worry, Turffontein Racecourse has laid it all out for you on their site. Here, they inform you of the various types of bets you can place so that the next time you spend a day at the races, you'll be sure to impress.

Exciting Events Galore

The Turffontein Racecourse, in partnership with Racing It's A Rush, always has amazing and adrenaline-filled events taking to the tracks throughout the year! You can expect live horse racing that'll have you buzzing and on your feet all day, great live entertainment, refreshing drinks at the beer gardens, designated kiddies entertainment areas where the little ones can play to their heart's content, sometimes even lucky draws on special event days and lots of delicious food. Queeni's Shebeen

There's Ice-Cold Beer!

This one speaks for itself. There will be plenty of ice-cold local beer available to quench your thirst before, during, after and in between matches because let's face it, you're going to be doing a lot of cheering and shouting during game time which will definitely leave one thirsty. And to make sure you stay hydrated, they have a drink special available during the 2018 FIFA World Cup action... for every three Soweto Gold beers you buy, you'll get one FREE! Now that's the perfect deal to keep you cool and refreshed during all the soccer fever. Just remember to drink and drive responsibly, please.

The Hilton Hotel Sandton

ALL Games Live On Their Big Screen DAILY!

From 14 June to 15 July 2018, FIFA fanatics can catch ALL the goals, thrills, best moments and football action that FIFA has to offer LIVE on their big screen DAILY between 13:00 - 23:00. You read correctly! Everyday. Every match at 14:00, 17:00 and 20:00. That gives you more than enough time to prep before each game (like ordering those drinks and some grub), watch every moment of the action live AND celebrate (or grieve) with your mates after the match.

The Hilton Hotel Sandton

You Will Enjoy An Awesome Vibe

Not only will Queeni's Shebeen be fully stocked with lots of refreshing beers and a great World Cup menu jam-packed with delicious food, but it'll be the best place in the city to view the games! The atmosphere will be filled with lots of excitement, there will be friendly competition, comradery and of course, every single game will be screened live. What more do you need for a good time out?

The Hilton Hotel Sandton

It's Convenient

The location of Queeni's Shebeen makes this spot an ideal place to catch the games. Firstly, it's situated at The Hilton Hotel Sandton, which means if you work in the surrounding areas, there's at least one spot that's easily accessible if you want to watch the 17:00 or 20:00 game or would rather miss the peak hour traffic. And secondly, if you happen to have had one too many beers celebrating/grieving the win/loss of your beloved team and you don't feel like catching an Uber home, you can always spend the night at the hotel. Even better, why not book a night for you and your partner (who isn't a soccer fanatic) as an apology for paying more attention to the 2018 FIFA World Cup than him/her? That'll get you out of the woods... well, after catching just one more game at Queeni's Shebeen, of course.
