Johannesburg, the City of Gold. Known as a place of endless possibilities and growth as quick as lightning; has proven to be the place that everyone envisioned. We probably all have had a wistful thought of having a cool apartment like in the movies or the urban New York style apartment. Well! Now it is a reality and Joburg is home to some of the most beautiful Lofts the country has seen.

Dream Into Reality

What used to be a figment of our imagination is now a reality for many and the gems of Joburg are being snubbed by many people who are looking to live in a dreamy apartment. We're talking high walls, artistic, massive windows, the works.

Not only has this kind of style become a trend in the country, they have claimed themselves to be the type of place everyone wants to live in.

Imagine getting home and the minute you open the door, you are welcomed by a cool high wall ceiling, supersized windows, warm lighting and you get to walk up the stairs to get to bed. Loft apartments are in and they are definitely here to stay.

So, you've never seen Delicatessen? Never fear, because the Bioscope Independent Cinema has you covered. Bringing you must-see movies you may have just not gotten around to seeing, or those simply worth re-watching. This September, the Bioscope present Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro's French classic, Delicatessen.

A post-apocalyptic future becomes the setting for pitch black humor in this visually intricate French comedy. The action occurs within a single apartment complex, owned by the same man that operates the downstairs butcher shop. It's a particularly popular place to live, thanks to the butcher's uncanny ability to find excellent cuts of meat despite the horrible living conditions outside. The newest building superintendent, a former circus clown, thinks he has found an ideal living situation. All that changes, however, when he discovers the true source of the butcher's meat, and that he may be the next main course.

If you have seen the film before, bring along friends or family who haven't. Anyone who brings someone who hasn't seen the film before, earns themselves a FREE bucket of The Bioscope's finest popcorn! There are also other prizes up for grabs, including a Bioscope t-shirt. See you there!

The Bioscope usually begins the year by screening some of the best films to be released from the previous year. Inxeba is one of those films. This controversial film tells the story of Xolani, a lonely factory worker, who joins the men of his community in the mountains of the Eastern Cape to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood. When an initiate from the city discovers his best kept secret, Xolani’s entire existence begins to unravel. The film was much debated about in 2018 but tells a very compelling story. Don't miss this chance to catch up on a great film you might have missed.
