The Goodman Gallery proudly present Carrie Mae Weems' first ever solo exhibition on the African continent this September. Titled, 'Over Time', this highly-anticipated exhibition is a must-visit.
Carrie Mae Weems is considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists. She employs photography, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation and video mediums in her work. Weems compels viewers to actively consider how the world is structured, by bringing to light systems of oppression and inequality. All the while she explores relationships between power, class, race and gender.
'Over Time' presents several bodies of work, which look at these themes in relation to how the past comes to bear on the present. In this regard Weems reflects on history in order to engage with the present and question where we might be going.
Opening night is on Saturday, 07 September 2019.
Goodman Gallery, 163 Jan Smuts Ave, Parkwood, Johannesburg.
Entrance to the gallery is free.
