Ladies, sharing a little bit of gossip about so-and-so’s falling out with her bestie in the middle of a crowded mall isn’t juicy unless it’s discussed over a hot cup of tea or coffee, sitting around the kitchen table. Hmmm, but by the looks of those mugs in your cupboard, it’s time to replace them with newer, more vibrant and unique ones! Edgars offers a lovely selection of mugs to suit your style, personality and budget. Click here to see their Private Collection.

You know, chill out and unwind. Lighting plays an important role in setting the mood of a room, so to promote relaxation, we suggest some new lamps. If not all of us, most of us have a stack of magazines just laying around serving no real purpose in our lives anymore. Sure, some magazines have great articles that you think you’ll refer back to at some later date, but let’s be honest with ourselves: we’re just going to buy new magazines in the following months. Get rid of the clutter and throw those magazines away, or better yet, recycle them!
For book lovers, if your book collection keeps growing and your coffee table can no longer hold any more books, it’s time to invest in a bookshelf. Not sure where to get one? We love the bookshelf options from Superbalist if you're looking for something more stylish. But, if size matters, have a look at Furniture Warehouse.
Clothes are simple really, but we like to complicate them by thinking, “I might need to wear that to an event” but really, if you haven’t worn it in a year, donate it to charity, sell it at a thrift shop or give it away to someone who’ll make use of it. Don’t be a hoarder: declutter your wardrobe and declutter your life. Besides, you’ll have more space to buy and store that cute outfit from Zara!
If it’s broken, discoloured, has no sentimental value, never worn and just taking up space in your jewellery box, then it is time to let it go. On the upside, if it’s fine jewellery but maybe you can’t really tell whether it’s worth keeping or not, get yourself a sizable jewellery box from your nearest luggage or accessories store.
If you can’t even remember when you bought certain make-up essentials and cosmetics, this means you haven’t used them in a long while and you should most certainly toss them in the trash. If you buy your make-up from M.A.C., you can recycle old containers (six) with them and get a new lipstick, lip gloss or eyeshadow in return. Make-up case looking a little empty after the declutter? Visit Superbalist and Zando online to stock up on some fresh items.
There’s always a better way to store your dry towels, toilet paper rolls and toiletries. Pimp your bathroom out with towel racks, toilet paper holders, soap dispensers or soap dishes. Not sure where to get all these nifty accessories? We highly suggest you start off at Mr Price Home for some stunning and good quality options. Also, don't forget to throw out all the empty shampoo and conditioner bottles, lotions, ragged loofahs and all the things you generally don't want to keep anymore.
It is crucial to throw away expired medication and vitamins. Check your medicine cabinet quarterly for expired medication or vitamins and toss them in the trash. Not only is this beneficial in knowing what medicine and vitamins you actually have, but you also prevent risking your health by treating yourself with expired pills.
With our busy lives, it’s easy to lose track of what we have in our kitchen cupboards and refrigerators. Make it a habit to do a weekly check of your kitchen cupboards and refrigerators for expired, old, rotting and unused food and food products. This not only declutters your kitchen space, but you also avoid any unpleasant surprises and persistent pungent smells.

If wine is basically your life (come on, you can own up), this might seem impossible. Having a glass of wine (or two) in the evening may seem like a good idea as it helps you drift off into sleep, however, research has shown that drinking wine, or alcohol in general actually disrupts your sleep further on in the night. This disruption could be anything from waking up to a visit to the bathroom during the night or sleeping lightly, which doesn’t allow your body to fully recharge, which means you’ll wake up feeling sluggish. So, take our advice if you’ve got an early morning ahead!
This is easier to do in summer because it’s often too hot to sleep with all windows closed anyway, however, even in winter, make sure your room is well-ventilated, allowing fresh air in during the night. The build-up of carbon dioxide and moisture in a room without ventilation is likely to get uncomfortable and potentially break up your sleep, meaning you’re probably going to wake up feeling grumpy - and we don’t want that, do we?
We have all heard it countless times - to drink water, that is! Sure, it all becomes tedious but perhaps the tediousness should be derived from the action of drinking water and not the command of it. It may not seem essential to drink as much water as recommended (two to three liters a day) but it’s a key tip when it comes to waking up feeling ready to tackle the day. Try drinking a warm glass of lemon water before bed - this helps relax your body. To feel extra refreshed in the morning, drink a cool glass of lemon water and you’re good to go.
It helps to plan out the following day just before bed. Whether you physically plan out your outfit and pack your lunch for convenience in the morning, or just mentally lay out a skeleton of your to-do list, this all motivates your brain and body to rest up and recharge for the next day. Once up, before hitting the gym if you are a morning gym person, you should still do a few stretches and jumping jacks to increase blood-flow and get oxygen to your brain. This wakes you up and simultaneously releases happy hormones that make you feel good.
It’s important to de-clutter your room and create a ‘rested’ welcoming place. You have probably already noticed that, when your bedroom is neat and tidy, you wake up feeling more rested and refreshed as opposed to when your room is a mess. A messy room could reflect on your subconscious mind, so clearing it out and allowing the flow of energy to transcend is likely to help you sleep better and wake up feeling great. In any case, what are the chances of waking up feeling refreshed in a cluttered room? Keep it tidy, wake up refreshed. Simple as that!
