Estoril Books

Estroil Books has three branches located in Johannesburg. Our favourite is the newly relaunched store at Fourways Mall. The most extensive and well-organised of the branches, this is a book lover's paradise. Their classic books section is wide ranging, stocking not just the most popular novels by famous authors, but entire collections of their work and a few obscure titles. Estoril Books is also relatively one of the most affordable mainstream retailers for classic novels. They often host half-off sales too, so be sure to pop by on your next trip to Fourways Mall.

Bargain Books

Another great book store for classic books at discount prices is Bargain Books. Many a time we have scooped up three titles for the price of two at their Greenstone store. Mostly available in paperback editions, these classics may not look the prettiest, but it's the magnificence of words and story that we are after. Bargain Books is also an excellent kiddies book store to let the little ones browse around. Catering to new parents, toddlers and tweens, this is the ideal environment to start introducing classic literature to the kids (besides the library, of course).

Serial Thrillers

Serial Thrillers is relatively new to the book dealing scene, however they sure have made a good impression on us. Situated at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia, this knickknack store has a collection of true literary relics. Here you can find modern classics such as Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, Hemmingway's The Old Man and the Sea and short stories by the ever eloquent F. Scott Fitzgerald.

They offer hours of fun in the form of bumper cars, a bowling alley and all the classic arcade games. Everyone's favourite toy store has recently opened up shop at Greenstone. Toy Kingdom has an assortment of toys including action figures, arts and crafts, baby and early development, games and puzzles, dolls, plush and educational toys. All these may sound pricey. But don't stress. Toy Kingdom has a Royalty Club offering shoppers 1 loyalty point for every R25 spent. This is bound to make Christmas and birthday shopping a little lighter on the pocket.

One of our favourite memories as children was going to the movie theatre with friends, family or as a school outing. Watching a movie on a huge screen with surround sound and that oh-so amazing popcorn that we dusted in way too much spice was the highlight of our day. Spoil your kids with the same lasting memory by taking them out to catch a movie. They show many kid-appropriate and family-friendly movies from animations to feel good comedies. Pro tip, get a cuppa at the Ster-Kinekor coffee vending machine, for a little extra help keeping up with the kids.

Kids love going shopping, trying on new clothes, exploring the hidden world in books and, of course, getting new toys. When its time to spruce up your kid's wardrobe or spoil them with books and toys, head over to Greenstone. Stop by at Exclusive Books or Bargain Books to pick out new and exciting storybooks, fairy tales and colouring books. Or get some much needed wardrobe items from Cotton On Kids, The Hub, Ackermans or Jet.

After all the exertions playing in the arcade, jumping around like a jack-in-the box and all the shopping, the kids are bound to be hungry. Greenstone offers a few kid-friendly restaurants. These include the South African classics like Wimpy, Spur and Panarottis. End all the fun on a sweet note with an ice cold scoop, swirl or cake slice from Milky Lane.
