This is the perfect opportunity to get creative.
Since the season is changing, there's plenty of gardening that can be done on your property. Leaves are falling from the trees, so why not rake them up and save them for a compost heap? Prune those rose bushes and prep your flowerbeds for the new season. Or why not get started on growing your own veggie patch? You can even change up the scenery a little bit by clearing your garden of unwanted plants or simply just planting them in another area on your property.
For more gardening tips and to-dos, be sure to read our Let's Get Gardening article. It covers everything from autumn gardening to eco-friendly plants and indoor plants.

Bokkie Park has an array of farm animals including goats, sheep, cows, donkeys, horses, ostriches, rabbits, pigs, peacocks, geese, ducks and guinea pigs. The kids, and adults, can spend the day meeting and feeding these animals. This is a great way to get kids to interact with and respect animals and a great learning opportunity. The park also offers braai facilities, lapas and jungle gyms, with lots of room for picnicking and running around. Feed for the animals is sold at the onsite tuck shop, but you can also bring your own vegetables from home. The animals at the park are particularly fond of carrots. Items like bread, meat and processed food should not be fed to the animals.

Laying at the entrance to Greenstone Shopping Centre is a children's play area. This 30 000 square foot area is home to Rush Trampoline Park. Rush boasts many activities to keep the children active. These include the trampolines, dodgeball courts, basketball lanes, foam pit, battle beam and fidget ladder. Parents can grab a cup of coffee and watch their children jump for joy from the viewing area or keep themselves entertained watching the game on the big screen. Adventurous parents can even join in on the fun.
Located just past the food court, opposite Mugg and Bean and Musica, is the centre's arcade, aptly named The Fun Company. They offer hours of fun in the form of bumper cars, a bowling alley and all the classic arcade games. Kids, and adults, are bound to have a blast racing, shooting villains, shooting hoops, dancing and whacking the crocodile. All in a bid to score as many tags as possible in hope of getting the largest, loudest and most colourful prize.
Everyone's favourite toy store has recently opened up shop at Greenstone. Toy Kingdom has an assortment of toys including action figures, arts and crafts, baby and early development, games and puzzles, dolls, plush and educational toys. All these may sound pricey. But don't stress. Toy Kingdom has a Royalty Club offering shoppers 1 loyalty point for every R25 spent. This is bound to make Christmas and birthday shopping a little lighter on the pocket.
One of our favourite memories as children was going to the movie theatre with friends, family or as a school outing. Watching a movie on a huge screen with surround sound and that oh-so amazing popcorn that we dusted in way too much spice was the highlight of our day. Spoil your kids with the same lasting memory by taking them out to catch a movie. They show many kid-appropriate and family-friendly movies from animations to feel good comedies. Pro tip, get a cuppa at the Ster-Kinekor coffee vending machine, for a little extra help keeping up with the kids.
Kids love going shopping, trying on new clothes, exploring the hidden world in books and, of course, getting new toys. When its time to spruce up your kid's wardrobe or spoil them with books and toys, head over to Greenstone. Stop by at Exclusive Books or Bargain Books to pick out new and exciting storybooks, fairy tales and colouring books. Or get some much needed wardrobe items from Cotton On Kids, The Hub, Ackermans or Jet.
After all the exertions playing in the arcade, jumping around like a jack-in-the box and all the shopping, the kids are bound to be hungry. Greenstone offers a few kid-friendly restaurants. These include the South African classics like Wimpy, Spur and Panarottis. End all the fun on a sweet note with an ice cold scoop, swirl or cake slice from Milky Lane.

This venue, as the name suggests, is based on a carnival theme. The building is shaped like a huge tent with lights hanging around it, which makes the scene shine bright like a star. This is quite fitting, as it is Brakpan's star. If you are around the Brakpan and Boksburg border, it can be seen all around like a giant lighthouse imploring you to draw near. The carnival theme is completed with giant clown murals, fantastical carnival scenes painted along the walls, carousal styled bars and, you guessed it, an actual carnival.
Outside, the miniature carnival features all the classic games of skill and chance that would win you a giant teddy bear. There are also several rides for children, like the enormous lollipop merry-go-round, among others. This outside area also features a play-ground with slides and swings for less adventurous children. But the main attraction is the go-karting. That's right, Carnival City has go-karting — something the other casinos definitely don't have. The only drawback is that it's only for the kids, not adults.
Adults do have their own entertainment options here too. It is a casino, after all, and was made for gambling. And with the 57 table games, which includes the classic American roulette, poker and black jack, gambling you shall do. This does not even mention all the slot machines they have. Also, as mentioned above, they have a bar that looks like a carousal — the perfect place to get something to treat those shot nerves or to celebrate any winnings if it's been your lucky night. And your kids will be taken care of, even if the carnival is not their thing. The younger kids can hang out at the Kidzone Créche while the older kids can head on over to the arcade.
The arcade here is certainly the best I have ever seen. Most of these gaming facilities in Joburg are small-scaled with barely enough room to move. To top that, many of the machines aren't even functioning. And you always spend all your tokens while waiting for that one family to stop hogging the only air hockey table. Not at Carnival City's Arcade. Here, there is plenty or room and plenty of games from the classic whack-a-crocodile to the latest zombie killing technology. They even have more than one air hockey table so everyone can get a chance at swiping those pucks. And because all of this isn't enough, they decided to throw in a Laser Tag Zone. Just in case killing zombies, crocodiles and dueling your friends in an epic air hockey game wasn't enough.
Fighting zombies, racing go-karts and winning black jack is bound to burn a hole in your stomach. You'll be able to fill those hungry bellies at any one of the 13 restaurants or the food court. Not sure what to get? No worries! Among others, they have American, Asian, Italian, and Portuguese choices on hand, as well as a store dedicated to satisfying that sweet tooth for dessert. And if you feel like a little family fun time after all of this, head on over to the cinema and catch a movie or have a relaxed ten pin bowling match.
