Don't Be A "New Year, New Me" Drop Out

If there is one thing I've learnt on my journey to fitness bunny to myself, it's that preparing yourself mentally is the most important thing you can do to prevent the "New Year, New Me" stereotype of being a drop-out.

In fact, every single time I hear "New Year, New Me", I go ...

Joining other people for motivation is the best. That's why kicking off your fitness goals with Parkrun is the best thing you can do. And it won't cost you a thing!

Let me break it down to you the old fashioned way, in 5 W's and 1 H style...

Who can join?

You, of course, and any other people who are trying to make health and wellness a thing. Whether you are a beginner or Comrades jock, they welcome everyone. It's a great place to meet people who are on a similar wavelength.

What is Parkrun?

Well! First and foremost, Parkrun South Africa is undoubtedly the most creative run to hit the Joburg shores. I am certain that the country, if not the world, LOVES the idea. It has truly become a movement. People from different parts of Joburg enjoy it because it is both free and safe.

Parkrun organises awesome 5km runs. And no, it's not compulsory to run. However, for that amazing fitness you are looking for, running is best. Plus, there is nothing wrong with being a bit competitive, even with yourself (challenging yourself is the best medicine for growth).

Where is Parkrun?

You can find Parkrun almost everywhere in the Gauteng Province: North, South, East and West, including outlying areas, such as the Vaal.

When is Parkrun?

Prepare yourself for an amazing Saturday morning — or a Sunday morning, depending on which one you will be joining. Every weekend is a run weekend, so this is a great opportunity to explore Jozi and clear your head from the long week.

How to join?

Now that we are done with that, if you are on discovery you will definitely love this. In addition to Mr Price Sport, Discovery is one of their sponsors (so your Vitality points will be shooting out the roof ... more motivation Fam).

This is one of those things that will easily become a lifestyle. All you need now is the right mindset to challenge yourself. Yes, waking up on a weekend is a bit of a balloon popper, but who needs too much sleep when you can wake up to train your mind and body. *Drops Mic*

Let's start getting fit, fam!

What Went Down?

Joburg - on your marks, get set, GO! The Music Run by Old Mutual is finally made its way on our shores last year, bringing the beat to Joburg as part of their global tour! Attendees got out their running shoes and partied their way through this 5km run. Once they crossed the finish line, the musical festival began! What's so special about this run is that the runners decide on the playlist . All you have to do is to download the Music Voting App, listen, vote and share.

Running never sounded so good - literally! The running course is, in fact, the Sound Track. Lined with over 120 speakers, the songs you voted for across five interactive and themed music zones – rock, pop, old school, hip-hop and dance - were pumping, keeping the people amped and ready to party once they've crossed the finish line. Live the beat at the ultimate after-run music festival, which included acts from world-class DJs, live bands, dancers, laser lights, LED screens, fireworks, chill out zones, giveaways and much, much more! If you missed it never fear, it's going to be coming back again this 2018, just be on the look out for any further communication through following up on their Facebook or website.
