The season we have all been waiting for is finally here, gone are the days of hibernating and being kept hostage by the cold. We are coming out to play this spring, and what’s more fascinating is it’s Heritage Month. We are indulging in everything that screams ‘African’ and doing it in style, check out these events this spring and you can decide which one tickles your fancy:

Spring

The Linden Market 2019

Date: Sunday, 28 September 2019 at 09:00 – 16:00.

Where: Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, 45 Thomas Bowler St, Emmarentia, Randburg, Johannesburg.

What screams ‘spring’ more than the Linden Market? This is a curated lifestyle market like no other with a fantastic selection of South Africa’s top makers, designers and artisans. You can enjoy a day of shopping, eating and listening to live music at the Botanical Gardens. This is a perfect outing for friends and family as there is something for everyone to enjoy. Mix Fest 2019 At Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge

Date: Saturday, 28 September – Sunday, 29 September 2019.

Where: Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge, 59 Beyers Naude Drive, Muldersdrift, Johannesburg.

September is not only celebrated for the beautiful spring season, but also because it is deaf-awareness month. With that said, Mix 93.8 FM and Channeled Events bring you the first ever Mix Fest this September. This two day event is bound to be amazing, filled with music and boasting a stellar line-up to keep you dancing for two days straight! And it is all for a good cause because Mix 93.8 FM will donate a portion of all ticket sales to the Rotary Club. Donations will also be accepted towards the charity organisation at the Silent Mix private headphone party on the Saturday night.

The Grand White Spring Picnic Soweto 2019

Date: Saturday, 28 September 2019 from 12:00 – 23:59.

Where: GOG Gardens Soweto, R559 Zuurbekom Road, Soweto, Johannesburg.

Dress up in your cool white outfits and let’s get this party started! This is Soweto’s first Grand White Spring Picnic, and you are being invited to come enjoy a spectacular time out and about in the coolest township. It promises to be amazing, because there ain’t no party like a Soweto party because a Soweto party don’t stop! There will be delicious food, entertainment, good vibes and a vibrant crowd.

The Sun City Sandy Land Getaway

Date: Saturday, 28 September 2019 at 07:00 – 17:30.

Where: The bus departs from Park Station Johannesburg, CBD, 2000.

Being away from the busy city isn’t a bad idea at all. It’s time to soak up the sun and enjoy the holiday feeling before the end of the year rush. They are hosting their second annual Sun City Lands Getaway day trip. Which will be a short two-and-a-half-hour journey outside the city, at the legendary Valley of the Waves at Sun City Resort. There isn’t anything that could match up to welcome spring, than soaking in the sun and relaxing in the sand and just enjoying sunny days.

This full day road trip begins with an early start. Embark on your journey from Park Station in Joburg CBD at 07:00. Then stop by Chameleon Village to celebrate the halfway mark. This is one of the coolest craft village’s you’ll come across. Here, you can find all sorts of African hand made products to help you remember your trip.

Once you arrive at Sun City, the second part of the journey begins. Your ticket covers the entrance to the resort and the Valley of the Waves, as well as all the fun water slides awaiting you. Relax and have fun with the whole family without the hassle of making long term travel plans. The Sun City Sandy Lands Getaway experience is the perfect way to welcome in the summer, so don’t wait to book your tickets. Last year’s event was sold out!

Date: Saturday to Sunday, 27 – 28 September 2019 (Sat: 15:00 – 22:00, Sun: 12:00 – 21:00)

Where: Red Roman Shed, Emperors Palace, 64 Jones Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

Cheers to the weekend, now let’s drink to that! Raise your glasses and enjoy everything beer related. Calling upon all ‘ye who love beer, join in and enjoy your favourite drink the best way you know how at the Republic of Beer at the Red Roman Shed. This festival is going to be filled with live entertainment, good vibes and all you need to do is make sure you have a jolly good time. So gather your squad and let’s enjoy, with a glass of beer in one hand, of course!

The Soothing Sounds Of The 22nd Standard Bank Joy Of Jazz

Date: Thursday – Saturday, 26 – 28 September 2019 at 19:00

Where: Sandton Convention Centre, 161 Maude Street, Sandton, Johannesburg.

The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz is bringing on the jazz again, you should expect amazing sounds this spring, because beautiful classical jams go well with the season. They are giving you the best musicians in the country and abroad. And this year they are going to be even bigger and better, you can expect diversity with a phenomenal level of artistry. And to top it off, there will be a special performance to honour the late Hugh Masekela. Don’t say we didn’t advise you to get your tickets soon!

A Taste Of Africa At African Food Festival

Date: Tuesday, 24 September 2019 at 12:00 – 22:00.

Where: Pretoria National Botanical Gardens, 2 Cussonia Avenue, Brummeria, Pretoria.

September isn’t only the month when spring officially begins, but it is also Heritage Month. Enjoy everything that is South African and indulge in everything that makes us true Africans. South Africa is the melting pot of diversity and the African Food Festival is where you need to be on Heritage Day. There will be African food, poetry, music, dance and, of course, a good vibe. Giving you a beast line-up with only the best for you on the day:

DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival 2019

This being their 7th edition of the DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival, you already know they always make sure you enjoy every single moment. The experience is out of this world. Comic Con Africa 2019

This is an exciting one for all the geeks and nerds out there – rejoice because Comic Con Africa is making a return. You should be planning your outfit already as this is the chance for you to dress up as your favourite comic character and be a superhero for the day. Dreams are meant to come true, and this is just the place to bring those dreams to life. You can expect promos of new series, movies, anime, cosplay competitions, gaming, manga, an irresistible collection of comic books and, of course, a panel of discussions with local and international celebrities. Trust us when we say, you do not want to miss any of it!

Heritage Day Pop-Up Market at Design Quarter

Date: Tuesday, 24 September 2019 at 10:00 – 15:00.

Where: Design Quarter, Corner William Nicol and Leslie East, Magaliesig, Sandton, Johannesburg.

A bit of North Jozi is just what we signed up for. Join in as the popular Maboneng food market makes its way to Magaliesig this Heritage Day as they are bringing you the Heritage Day Pop-Up Market at Design Quarter. Allowing you to enjoy some magic as the Market on Main vibe will be transforming the Design Quarter into a magical experience. Bring your loved ones to enjoy some lekker South African food, as well as cuisines from around the world. It’ll be like travelling, but with your taste buds. What a time to be South African!
