Bigger and more spectacular than ever, the classic evergreen story of Snow White will be brought to life once again from page to stage in an enchanting production complete with stunning sets, beautiful costumes, breathtaking special effects and lots of comedy.
Snow White will feature the irrepressible and irreplaceable TOBIE CRONJÉ as the evil Queen Hilda Gonda Hoggaheim. In complete contrast (well, in most ways) to his lauded portrayal of Captain Hook in last year’s panto PETER PAN, Tobie promises to scare the living daylights out of anyone who comes too close to Her Majesty. The extraordinary life-like raven threatens whenever the Queen summons!
Multi-talented BIANCA LE GRANGE has been cast in the title role of the beautiful Princess. Bianca evolved from her fame as a television idol to become one of South Africa’s leading role models for the youth of today, scoring a personal triumph on stage in the title role of Janice Honeyman’s CINDERELLA in 2004.
Young and hunky DANIEL BUYS is cast as Prince Chuksie Charming. Daniel was a Top 5 Idols finalist in 2007 and has a diploma in professional cookery. Consequently, Daniel is known in the entertainment industry as The Singing Chef. While dreaming away his youth in Cape Town he participated in an amateur production of GREASE in which he played the lead role of Danny Zuko, so now he can’t wait to get his teeth into a lead role in the nation’s most popular stage event.
Many of South Africa’s best loved stage and television performers have appeared in Janice Honeyman’s pantos over the years and CEO of the Joburg Civic, Bernard Jay, is delighted to be bringing many of them back in 2008, together with some of the most shining newcomers in town.
DOLLY LOUW and LUTHO JOHN have been cast as the palace nanny’s mischievous children – Dudu and Dompie. STEVEN HICKS returns to the Nelson Mandela Theatre stage as Major Dom-o Doedelsak, following his lead role in the musical THE FULL MONTY.
And, of course, “Heigh ho! Heigh ho! It’s off to work we go,” with the very strangely behaved and not-so-traditional seven dwarfs: Jesse Christelis (The King and I), Matthew Counihan (The Full Monty), Disemelo Makhanda (Janice Honeyman’s Goldilocks and the Three Bears), Nicol Sheraton (We Will Rock You), Lindo Sithole (Soweto Story), Jaco van Rensburg (THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE) and Julian Wenn (The King and I).
All of the other usual crazy roles in the panto will be performed by Nadia Beukes, Andre de Beer, Nacia Erasmus, Alina Funani, Earl Gregory, Emmanuelle Girard, Zak Hendrikz, Rochelle Jansen, Revano Michael, Pulane Rampoana, Nhlanhla Sibanyani and Xander Steyn.
Snow White will be on the stage of the Civic’s Nelson Mandela Theatre from Wednesday, 29th of October to Wednesday, 31st of December 2008.
