Thursday, 6th to Saturday, 8th of September
Sibikwa Arts Centre
Sibikwa is putting on their 7th Annual Storytelling Festival. They welcome back internationally acclaimed storyteller, Gcina Mhlophe, who will be joining the festival on
Thursday, 6th of September. Gcina will share her stories at a storytelling session
and then she will share her gift for storytelling a workshop.
For the first time a sculptor, Philip Rikhotso, will also take part in the festival.
Philip won the Brett Kebble Art Award in 2005. His daughter Alice, a
storyteller, will be sharing the stories that relate to Mr Rikhotso’s pieces
while he carves next to her. Philip will be hosting workshops for aspiring
sculptors after the storytelling sessions on Wednesday, 5th and Thursday, 6th of September.
The production, House of Zombies, is a play about Philip Rikhotso’s life and
it will be performed at the Sibikwa theatre in the afternoons from Wednesday, 5th to Saturday, 8th of September.
This year the public can get more involved with the Storytelling Festival.
On Saturday, 8th of September there is a Storytelling Competition. The best
performers will be awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Most Promising
Storyteller. Places are still open for the public and they can contact
Sibikwa to book a spot in the competition.
