Screening of The Bookshop At The Bioscope

The Bioscope Independent Cinema will be hosting a screening of Isabel Coixet’s latest drama, The Bookshop. Starring Bill Nighy, Emily Mortimer and Patricia Clarkson, this is not one to be missed.

What Is It?

The Bookshop is a 2017 drama adaptation of  Penelope Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name. Director, Isabel Coixet was awarded the 2018 Goya award for Best Director and best adapted screenplay for The Bookshop, which stars Emily Moritmer,  Patricia Clarkson and Bill Nighy.

Moritmer stars as Florence Green, a widow, who has decided to open a bookshop in the small coastal town of Hardborough, Suffolk in 1959. Florence faces polite, but ruthless local opposition to her bookshop opening, especially from one Violet Gamart (played by Patricia Clarkson). With the help of the town’s bookish recluse, Edmund Brundish (Bill Nighy), Florence attempts to deter Mrs Gamart from purchasing the bookshop for her own selfish ventures.

The Bioscope is the only independent cinema in Joburg. If you haven’t visited them yet, let this be your excuse to pop down to the Maboneng precinct for an evening of good film, great food and a vibe like no where else in the city.
