We all love console video games. Even if you think you don’t, you love it. Nobody can say no to a round or three of Street Fighter. I’d go as far as to say even our grandmothers enjoyed the odd round of Bomber Man every now and then… in fact, my gran was a huge fan of Road Racer and Contra.
Well, Nintendo has just launched (at the time of writing) their latest addition to the Nintendo family of consoles. The Nintendo Switch is one of the most innovative and fun consoles on the market yet and has carved its niche into the next generation of consoles. It has broken ground in the same fashion the Nintendo Wii did in 2006 when it first came. But what exactly did Nintendo implement with this next-gen console? A lot. Nintendo made a console that doubles as a mobile gaming device. Imagine, if you will, you are jamming Mario Kart 8 (which is amazing, by the way) but then you need to leave to catch a flight to Acapulco (as you do) but you don’t want to stop playing. That is where the Nintendo Switch shines out as ground breaker in overall gaming. By removing the the touch screen innards of the console you can simply take it with you and jam on the go.
This was all revealed at the Nintendo Switch Press launch the day before the console was released. We had the opportunity to jam games such as the new Mario Kart, Street Fighter, Bomber Man (time to challenge granny to a rematch 20 years later), and the new Zelda… the new Zelda. Oh my. You wouldn’t believe how amazing it is. This was all hosted at Apple’s HQ in Sandton, Core Group.
Check this teaser shot at the press event. Thanks for having us, Nintendo!
