What Is It?

The Market Theatre Lab presents National Theatre Live this May. They will be screening the National Theatre’s live performance of Shakespeare’s tragedy, Antony and Cleopatra. Broadcast live from the National Theatre in London, Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo play Shakespeare’s famous fated couple in his great tragedy of politics, passion and power.

If you haven’t gotten around to reading the play yet, the premise is as follows: Caesar and his assassins are dead. General Mark Antony now rules alongside his fellow defenders of Rome. But at the fringes of a war-torn empire the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and Mark Antony have fallen fiercely in love. In a tragic fight between devotion and duty, obsession becomes a catalyst for war.

Entry to the screening is free, but places are limited so get there beforehand to steal a seat. See you at the movies – no sorry, see you at the theatre!
