Soul Fest

As far as music festivals in the city go, Soul Fest is one of the most exciting international line-ups for 2019. Taking place on National Women’s Day in August, Soul Fest is a 90s R&B fan’s dream. Treat the special lady in your life to an epic concert event at the TicketPro Dome. Featuring Blackstreet founding members, Teddy Riley and Dave Hollister, Glenn Lewis and ‘Give it to me right’ songstress, Melanie Fiona, Soul Fest is going to be one to remember.

Huawei Joburg Day 

Huawei Joburg Day is headed back to Crocodile Creek Polo Club in Lanseria this September. This all out South African music festival has been on our calendars for almost a decade. Each year, 947 and Huawei bring you even bigger and better acts. This year’s line-up includes the best in SA Hip-Hop, EDM, Rock and Soul. The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival

This is one for all the cool cats out there. The 22nd annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival returns to the Sandton Convention Centre in September. Showcasing both South African and international jazzists, musicians and singers, the festival is a three day jazz affair. There are five stages at the venue, each featuring a number of super talented artists. This year, musicians will be coming from countries world over, including the USA, Switzerland, Thailand, Ghana, Nigeria and Cuba. Make a weekend of it and stay over at one of the many fine hotels near the venue.

Thursday, 26 September – Saturday, 28 September 2019.

Prime Fest

Prime Fest returns for its second year at Casalinga Restaurant in Muldersdrift. Another all South African music festival in the city, Prime Fest features eight top SA music acts. This is a family-friendly festival taking place over 10 hours, giving you an all day music experience. The lineup for this year’s festival includes Prime Circle, The Parlotones, Just Jinjer, Jack Parow, Freshly Ground, Wonderboom, Mango Groove and Shut Up It’s Sunday.

Can Do In The City Festival

The Can Do In The City Festival is undoubtedly the biggest international tour headed to Joburg. English indie-pop foursome, The 1975, will headline a stellar line-up of artists from the UK, the US and Australia. Plus, there may be a few South African support acts added right at the last minute just to amp up the excitement. Taking place right in the heart of the Joburg CBD at Ellis Park Stadium, this all day alternative music show is a must for young Joburgers looking for a really cool vibe, great tunes and some awesome Instagram content. Passenger

Passenger, AKA Mike Rosenberg is headed back to Joburg for a solo concert at the TicketPro Dome in November. After receiving a massive amount of support from his South African fans during his stint as Ed Sheeran’s support act in March 2019, Big Concerts announced that Passenger would be back for a solo show. The English crooner is best known for his 2013 single, Let Her Go. If you are fan of folksy guitar ballads and clever lyrics, this one is for you.

Afropunk

Finally, closing out the year on a high note is Afropunk Joburg 2019! Spend the last two days of the year soaking up the sights and sounds at Constitution Hill in Braamfontein. Afropunk is all about celebrating African heritage, culture and rebelliousness. It is a safe space to have fun, express your true self and just freak out.
