Linden Is Getting A New Restaurant - Linden Lanes!

Est. Reading: 3 minutes
Good news foodies! A culinary delight is slated to open in Linden end-June 2022. Solely owned by Toerie van der Merwe (of Ba-Pita Norwood fame), this exciting venture will further cement Linden as one of Johannesburg’s gastronomical hubs.

The arty suburb of Linden is famous for its quirky art shops, coffee and cheese emporiums and a general atmosphere of tranquility. Now there’s one more reason to visit the village to get a break from frantic city life. Linden Lanes is set to open at the end of June 2022 and promises to be a melting pot of taste bud sensations, fired by the commitment and expertise of chefs and staff alike, and baked to perfection.

Toerie has been the driving force behind successful restaurants in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch for 25 years. And now he is poised to help take Linden’s gourmet offerings to new heights.

Linden Lanes – the restaurant

Linden Lanes will be a generous 60-seater, with 30 seats inside and 30 outside, and will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and early dinner.

With an open plan design, the kitchen will be fitted with a pizza oven for bread baking and slowly roasted meals. Primed with seasonal goodies, the menu items will be freshly made to order.

Inviting, laid-back and comfortable, the vibe will encourage patrons to sip on coffees and enjoy light meals or main courses. Prime quality meats, choice veggies and an array of vegan/vegetarian fare are on the menu. Toerie is well-positioned to locate local products, using sustainable and organic traceable goods.

The wine list is designed to complement meals with a handpicked selection listed by region.

Linden Lanes - Interior

The interior is designed exclusively by Elizabeth Joubert from TinLab Design, and her long association with some Toerie’s restaurants stands her in good stead. Elizabeth is a major interior designer with 20 years of experience, and TinLab’s reputation for fusing function and aesthetics speaks for itself.

Delicatessen and bakery

The deli has been designed to merge with the dining area, conjuring a fresh goods market ambiance. Displaying kombuchas, homemade iced teas, free range eggs, breads, pickles, pastas, cakes and delectable pastries, wooden shelving and deli fridges will present a visual feast for sit-down and walk-in clientele.

Takeaways are part and parcel of any restaurant worth its salt and Linden Lanes is no exception. With the emphasis on health, its tasty takeaway meals and drinks will suit on the go professionals, families, strollers and students.

Linden Lanes - Coffee and gelato bar

In collaboration with Allessandro Morrico, Linden Lanes will feature a European-style coffee and gelato bar which will be built into the shopfront facing 3rd Avenue, also on display inside the eatery. Patrons will be able to order ice cream or coffee directly from outside the restaurant and this will link Linden Lanes to its location.

Allessandro’s gelato rivals the top of the range Roman Gelaterias, and mention must be made of his amazing coffee.

To top everything off, restrooms will comprise water features, textures and flora, with the finest soaps and sanitisers. An ornamental hand wash basin, in the line of sight of diners, will be there for them to wash and sanitise prior to and after their meals – just like Ba-Pita in Norwood.

Linden Lanes promises to tempt and delight customers with its bespoke fare. Make a note in your diary!
