Celebrate The Chilly Season At Afriski Winterfest 2018!

Document

Yes, we know Afriski has nothing to do with Johannesburg or Gauteng for that matter. But… it has everything to do with escaping the city for an exciting winter getaway that has actual snow! With this in mind, Afriski Winterfest 2018 welcomed winter with bang with Africa’s most unique winter music festival. But don’t worry, they’ll be back with the End of Season Winterfest this August. Get our tickets now!

Afriski Winterfest 2018 Welcomes Winter!

Africa’s most unique winter music festival, Afriski Winterfest, took place in Lesotho over the weekend and attracted an audience from all over South Africa. With fresh snow sprinkled across the mountains and South Africa’s top artists on the lineup, it was a jam-packed music and snow fest! It was an event that officially opened the winter season – three months of skiing and snowboarding fun at Afriski Mountain Resort.

By day, festival goers took to the slopes! First timers and seasoned pros made the most of the daylight and free snow gear rental throughout the entire weekend, skiing to their heart’s content. And once the boards and skis were packed up for the day, it was time for the main event.

The temperatures dropped and so did the beats. The evening warm-up took place over good food at Skybar and a live evening jam session from Simone Govender, 4AM to Will Rayz. Gondola Café at the base of the slopes came alive with a power lineup of DJs like Black Sparrow, Skye, Mocheques and Easy Freak. Along with artists from across Southern Africa, Winterfest was proud to have hosted Lesotho’s very own, Leomile.

For the Afriski Winterfest Season Opener, there was an all-star lineup that featured Rubber Duc, Albert Frost, Gunshot Blue and headline act, Jack Parow. The last day was a little cooler, but Jack Parow’s high energy show got the crowd warmed! The festival ended in style with a champagne drenched main stage show and the ritual “Ski Burning”. Dressed in Basotho gear, Afriski veterans performed under the clear starry sky, chanting into the chilly night sacrificing the skis to the fire and bringing the festival to a close.
