Gold Reef City hosts World Blood Donor Day

You don’t need to be a superhero to save a life. Just head to Gold Reef City on 14 June 2019, donate 30-minutes of your time (and some blood) and you’ll save three. This is all in spirit of World Blood Donor Day.

Save A Life!

Want to do a good deed this winter? Well, then why not donate blood and save three lives? Gold Reef City Casino, in partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), will be hosting a public blood donation drive on Friday, 14 June 2019, which is also World Blood Donor Day. Their goal for this drive is to collect at least 30 units of blood. The drive will take place from 09:00 to 16:00 in the Gold Reef City Casino Hotel Board Room Centre on the first Floor.

Why You Should Donate

Did you know that just 30-minutes of your time and one unit of your blood could save three lives? Your platelets can be used for a cancer patient, plasma to replace clotting factors in a trauma patient and your red blood cells for patients who need surgery or suffered complications during childbirth.

What Are The Requirements?

If you weigh 50kg or more, are between the ages of 16 and 75, are in good health and lead a low-risk lifestyle, you are a perfect candidate for this very worthy cause.

All you need to do is complete a simple donor questionnaire then sit with your nurse for a one-on-one interview. Your blood pressure and haemoglobin (iron) levels will be checked before your blood is verified and your donation is approved. Just a quick tip: make sure you have a snack four hours before donating blood.

Healthy donors are the only source of blood for those who need it. Currently, only one in every approximate 140 people are blood donors. This means South Africa is almost always close to running out of blood stocks, placing thousands of lives at risk every single day.
