The critically-acclaimed political play, “Woza Albert!” is back by popular demand at Joburg Theatre between 1 and 12 March 2023.
Woza Albert! written by Percy Mtwa, Mbongeni Ngema and Barney Simon, is back for a limited run at The Joburg Theatre. It remains one of the most vibrant examples of satirical anti-apartheid South African Theatre. Woza Albert! is a great theatre piece and is also great tool for audience development while assisting schools with their school curriculum.
In terms of the synopsis, the dialogue carries much truth and clarifies a simple approach to the human condition, therefore making it relevant to South Africa. The play is considered to be a work of political satire that imagines the second coming of Christ in apartheid-era. South Africa. The production uses the metaphor of Morena (Jesus) to show what would happen if he came back to South Africa during apartheid. Would he like what he saw? Please note that no under 14’s are allowed to attend the production. The stars of the show are, Hamilton Dlamini and Thulani Mtsweni, and is directed by Hamilton Dlamini. Tickets cost R150 per person and school groups get a discounted ticket of R120.
