J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit is coming to National Children’s Theatre from Monday, 17 April until Sunday, 21 May 2023.
“I have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can’t think what anybody sees in them,” says Biblo Baggins the protagonist of fantasy novel, The Hobbit. If you aren’t privy to the works of J.R.R Tolkien then you can look forward to a production that contains elements of adventure, fantasy, humor, unforgettable characters, and courage.
The Hobbit tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a simple home-loving hobbit, whose life takes an exciting turn when he is summoned to join a band of dwarves under the leadership of Thorin Oakenshield. The dwarves are on a quest to reclaim their kingdom as well as recover stolen treasure from the feared dragon Smaug. Forced to think and act quickly, Bilbo outsmarts many of his opponents (including Smaug). He also displays his fearlessness and proves himself essential to the quest.
According to Moria Katz, CEO of the National Children’s Theatre, “Bilbo reminds us that even the humblest of us can rise up and be a hero in the battle against greed and corruption.” There’s not better way to intoduce young audiences to the magic of theatre and imagination, the production is appropriate for ages 7 and up. Tickets are R140 for adults and R120 for children.
