The last time the Drakensberg Boys choir performed at this venue was four years ago! And now they return with their angelic voices to the Joburg Theatre. It’s been a difficult two years for the entertainment world and live stage performances. However, the boys have endured and triumphed by way of online shows but now they’re excited to be back on stage singing to a live crowd. They will be preforming The Mandela theatre on Thursday 23 June and Friday 24 June.
The choir boasts a varied repertoire and if you’re attending the show then you’ll hear music to the likes of; Mozart, Ed Sheeran, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Imagine Dragons and more. And that’s just the first half! The second half of the show will feature drum beating and gumboot dancing. In essence the second half will be a pulse of African music.
The Drankensberg Boys Choir are considered to have a unique approach when compared to other school boy choirs. The school differs in the sense that they make use of choral music as a vehicle for holistic education. Over the years, the choir has performed in front of many noble and noteworthy dignitaries from Presidents to the Pope. They’ve performed in full concert halls to open air concerts and even a intimate gatherings.
