Simply put "Aluta Nova," means a new struggle or new challenge that is being faced. The challenge in this context would be to get young people interested and back into the museums. The idea is to resurrect and reimagine these historical spaces.
On 25 June, the Aluta Nova Festival takes place at one of Joburg’s most iconic museums, the James Hall Museum of Transport. The goal of the festival is two fold. Firstly the event is being held to encourage a museum going culture amongst the youth. Secondly, the museum will use this opportunity promote creative SMMEs and artists.
The Museum houses old forms of land transport which are regarded as a national treasure. If you do attend the event then you can expect a guided museum tour. There will also be fun rides in some of their vintage vehicles! When you’ve worked up an appetite, you can walk to the food and maker’s market where you can support local business owners.
What’s an event without live music? There will be live entertainment and music featuring some of Joburg’s up-and-coming talent and youth performers.
There is no entrance fee. You need to register online in order to attend this forward thinking event. So, what are you waiting for? Get your tickets now.
