What Is It?
If you have never traveled aboard a steam engine before, you have seriously missed out on something super special. Take advantage of the Easter season and book a trip on the Reefsteamers Picnic Express. Starting out at Rhodesfield Station in Kempton Park, you will chug all the way along to the Reefsteamers depot in Germiston. Here you will be invited to picnic at your leisure, soaking up the mellow Autumn sun. Once your bellies are full, you can enjoy a 30 minute informative walk around the depot. See the last remaining “15M” steam Locomotive workshop in action along your way. Kids are invited to hunt around for the Easter Bunny amongst the sleeping locomotives. But, please ensure that they are supervised at all times.
If you are curious to see how a real steam engine works, attend a supervised cab visit. Speak to real steam engine drivers and firemen and find out how you can become one too. Also, while at the depot you can enjoy the tasty offerings from the engine’s Food Truck on Rails, which include yummy morning tea treats and beverages. Don’t forget to take a memento of the day home with you from their memorabilia table as well.
